Overview

Under general administrative direction, manages and directs the activities of professional and technical engineering, architecture, and/or landscape architecture personnel performing highly technical and administrative functions in connection with the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of projects and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Directs, supervises, and coordinates the design of complex engineering/architecture/landscape projects.
  • Interviews, selects, trains, monitors, and evaluates departmental staff and consultants.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs the administration and management of contracts.
  • Directs, supervises, and reviews the preparation of complex construction contract and construction documents.
  • Establishes and implements departmental policies, procedures, and administrative directives.
  • Manages projects, directs, reviews, and supervises the review of shop drawings by contractors.
  • Supervises field inspection staff, coordinates all activities between a unit and other groups, and consults with technical staff.
  • Conducts meetings and represents the City.
  • Writes and/or reviews and approves documents.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Eight (8) years of verifiable professional landscape architecture work experience, of which four (4) years of that experience must be as a licensed professional landscape architect. Two (2) of the eight (8) years must be equivalent to the City and County of San Francisco class 5274 Landscape Architect.

AND

2. Possession of a current Certificate of Registration as a Professional Landscape Architect in the State of California.

Substitutions for Landscape Architecture Specialty:

  • A Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture may substitute for 1 year of work experience.
  • A PhD in Landscape Architecture may substitute for 2 years of work experience.

  • Candidates licensed in other states who otherwise meet the minimum requirements of this announcement, but do not possess the required California license, may file for this examination, and if successful, will be placed under waiver on the resulting eligible list until the required California license is presented.

License or Certificate

Some positions may require a valid California Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Some positions may require lifting up to 50 pounds; climbing ladders; working in high places and confined spaces; exposure to various weather conditions and outdoors; bending, sitting, and walking for extended periods of time and over uneven surfaces. Positions in this class may also be required to work specific schedules which may include weekends, holidays, part time, nights, and/or overtime.

Selection Procedures

Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire with Training and Experience Evaluation (100%): Candidates will be prompted to complete a Supplemental Questionnaire with Training and Experience Evaluation as part of the online employment application. This questionnaire is designed to obtain information regarding the applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications. It is essential that applicants provide complete information in identifying their education, experience and training. The questionnaire will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications and to determine final score and rank on the eligible list/score report.

Eligible List/Score Report

A confidential eligible list of applicant names will be created and used for certification purposes. An examination score report will be available for viewing. The eligible list/score report may be updated after adoption and is subject to change as directed by the HR Director or Civil Service Commission. The duration of the eligible list will be 6 months and may be extended with approval.

Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department before final hiring decisions. This Citywide recruitment and its resulting eligible list may be used to fill positions in various City departments. Terms of Announcement and Appeal Rights

The terms of this announcement may be appealed under Civil Service Rule 110.4.
