Fortune Brands Innovations is in search of a Senior Software Quality Assurance Engineer to join our engineering team for next generation product development. Our IoT outlook strives for consumer interaction with our products in new and unique ways. As a member of the Quality Assurance team, you will validate software implementations and changes, ensuring safe and high-quality releases. You will lead, coordinate, develop, and execute test infrastructure and plans to ensure electronically enabled product software functions properly and provides a delightful user experience throughout the product lifecycle.

POSITION LOCATION: San Francisco, CA or Deerfield, IL

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the domain expert for software quality and validation.
  • Test software running in our IoT connected products across embedded firmware, hardware, and Android/iOS apps.
  • Design and develop test scenarios to exercise functionality, validate specifications, verify stability under stress, and assess usability.
  • Leverage automation tools and implement complementary manual testing strategies.
  • Lead test plan execution on complex projects and guide junior teammates on following test plans, reporting issues, and driving toward resolution.
  • Collaborate in a cross-disciplinary agile team including Hardware and Software Engineers and other staff outside Engineering.
  • Develop and archive (version-controlled) test suites to enable retesting after release to production and validate field updates.
  • Prioritize test cases based on end-user value to maximize meaningful coverage.
  • Collaborate with Design Team to leverage automatic builds for nightly regression tests.
  • Work with Developers to isolate, reproduce, and troubleshoot issues to bring them to resolution.
  • Act as a gatekeeper for software quality to ensure critical defects are caught before product launch.
  • Adapt to changing project priorities based on business needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Quality Assurance or Test Automation, with some experience testing embedded firmware or software apps.
  • Ability to test embedded and non-embedded software in consumer products that may be Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connected.
  • Solid understanding of Software Quality Assurance tools, techniques, and best practices (e.g., black box testing, regression testing, Firebase, Jenkins, Jira, TestRail or equivalents).
  • Experience with Wi-Fi and home networking technologies, especially related to low power IoT devices and troubleshooting.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, test planning, and communication skills.
  • Curiosity and drive to expose defects and maximize product quality.
  • Ability to advocate for quality across cross-functional teams including Electrical, Mechanical, and Software, as well as Marketing, Product, Program, Design, and Manufacturing.

Additional Information

Salary: The base salary range for this role is $100,000 USD – $165,000 USD. Actual salaries vary based on factors such as education, experience, and location. In addition to base salary, employees may participate in an annual bonus plan or a role-based incentive plan.
