  2025-10-08     Hinge Health     San Francisco,CA
Description:

About The Role

Hinge Health is a digital health company focused on delivering evidence-based solutions for musculoskeletal (MSK) pain. By combining personalized exercise therapy with virtual care, Hinge Health empowers individuals to manage and reduce chronic pain—improving quality of life and reducing healthcare costs. We partner with employers and health plans to provide these solutions at scale, helping organizations enhance employee health and productivity. With the launch of HingeSelect, we're taking the next big step: integrating digital and in-person care for improved outcomes and a better member experience.

We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer who is passionate about creating exceptional user experiences using Golang and gRPC-based micro-services. As an early member of the HingeSelect team, you will help build and shape this new product from the ground up. You'll work closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to build scalable, performant, and accessible applications. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-impact product in its early stages and to define the technical foundations for a seamless user experience.

Backend engineers at Hinge Health architect and implement end-to-end solutions, well-tested APIs and data models. You will profile systems to prevent scaling bottlenecks and contribute to a high bar with thoughtful code reviews. We maintain a DevOps culture with trunk-based CI/CD. Our production systems rely on Golang, gRPC, AWS, Postgres, Redis, and Temporal. We uphold security and compliance standards at the highest levels of healthcare (HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, and CCPA).

What You'll Accomplish

  • Complex Problem Solving: Tackle problems with multiple possible states and execution paths and minimal visible risks.
  • Code Reviews and Direction: Provide constructive, clear PR feedback and direction.
  • Debugging: Debug familiar code easily and plan approaches for unfamiliar tasks.
  • AI Tools: Leverage AI tools for team efficiency and stay aware of industry trends.
  • Planning and Estimation: Participate in planning and learn to estimate work; adopt new technologies as appropriate.
  • Post-Release Ownership: Own your work after release and respond quickly to issues.
  • Observability: Use tools like New Relic, DataDog, or Sentry to monitor errors and performance.
  • Operational Excellence: Plan ahead, adopt new technologies, and engage in team planning and estimation.

Hinge Health Hybrid Model

We believe that remote work and in-person work each have advantages. Employees in hybrid roles are required to be in the office 3 days per week, for the full 8 hours of a typical business day. The San Francisco office has a dog-friendly workplace program.

  • Experience delivering large software projects or features in a production environment
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Golang, Python, Java, JavaScript, etc.)
  • Good understanding and practical knowledge in cloud-based services (e.g. gRPC, Protobufs, Temporal, Docker/Kubernetes, AWS, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AI technologies for software design and coding assistance
  • Experience mentoring or onboarding junior engineers
  • Familiarity with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or scalable architectures
  • Experience with healthcare technology or regulated environments
