Applied AI Engineer role at Warp — Warp is building the platform for Agentic Development, a workbench for dispatching agents to code, deploy, and debug production software. Warp aims to empower developers to ship better software more quickly, freeing them to focus on the creative and rewarding aspects of their work. The team has over half a million active developers and significant year-to-date revenue growth. You will join Warp to accelerate this transformation and report to John Rector, Head of Engineering.

Warp is changing how developers interact with technology—from coding by hand to coding by prompt. As our first Applied AI Engineer, you will help develop predictive AI features using user-generated content and team data. The role emphasizes product development and implementation, not purely research.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy predictive AI features, including natural language detection, autosuggestions, and intelligent prompt recommendations.
• Leverage Warp's user-generated content and team data to refine AI prediction and personalization.
• Drive improvements in code generation quality, including code completions, diff applications, and SWEbench performance.
• Implement and iterate specialized agents tailored for specific developer workflows and use cases.
• Optimize AI models through fine-tuning, prompt engineering, and data-driven feedback loops.
• Improve context retrieval systems to enable Warp agents to retain and utilize memory effectively.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to rapidly ship iterative improvements into production.
• Elevate user experience by refining interactions between developers and Warp AI.

Qualifications

• You have at least 5 years of experience applying AI/ML to build and ship user-facing, production-grade products.
• Strong software engineering background.
• Experience in fine-tuning and deploying large language models and predictive systems.
• Adept at prompt engineering and iterative prompt refinement to optimize AI outputs and agent performance.
• Experience building scalable data-driven feedback loops to measure and improve model accuracy and user satisfaction.
• Thrives in fast-paced environments, prioritizing shipping high-quality improvements over pure theoretical research.
• Bonus: prior experience building or enhancing developer-facing AI products, especially those involving command-line or coding assistance.

Salary & Equity

Total compensation at Warp consists of base salary and meaningful equity. The budgeted range for this role is $220,000 – $275,000, and final compensation depends on experience and expertise.

All employees receive equity with a four-year vesting period and a one-year cliff. We're happy to discuss valuation scenarios at the offer stage to help you understand the upside.

Final total compensation is determined by multiple factors and may vary from the listed range.
