Additional qualifying experience performing professional-level administrative duties in the listed areas may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. One year (2000 hours) of additional qualifying experience is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units.

Prior to employment with the San Francisco Police Department, a thorough background investigation will be conducted to determine suitability. The investigation may include criminal history, driving records, drug/alcohol screening, and other related records. Candidates may be required to undergo drug/alcohol screening and must clear Department of Justice and FBI fingerprinting. Criminal records will be carefully reviewed; candidates who do not report complete criminal records may be disqualified.
