$165,374.00/annually (minimum) - $250,542.00/annually (maximum)

Initial negotiable starting salary will be between $165,374.00/annually - $221,076.35/annually, commensurate with education and experience.

Current Assignment
San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is seeking to fill a Manager of Mechanical Engineering position within the Office of Infrastructure Delivery.

The scope of the Mechanical Engineering Division includes planning, design, procurement, and engineering support during construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance of assets such as:

• Vertical conveyance equipment, including escalators, hydraulic and traction elevators, and wheelchair lifts
• Fire protection including wet standpipe, water sprinklers, undercar deluge, and chemical fire suppression
• Emergency tunnel ventilation systems
• Facilities (HVAC, plumbing, pumps)
• Shop equipment including cranes, hydraulic lifts, hydraulic presses, and wheel truing machines
• Train washers
• Water treatment plants

Incumbents in this position must demonstrate superior abilities in leadership, self-motivation, and technical acumen as well as extensive management experience, strong communication and organizational skills, and sound judgment.

The most qualified candidate for this position will have highly developed competencies beyond the minimum qualifications in the following areas, which will be reinforced with related work experience and will be clearly articulated during the selection process:

• Extensive experience with the management of a comprehensive Mechanical Engineering program
• Understanding of electrical, mechanical, physical, and mathematical principles applicable to the BART train control, traction power, ventilation, HVAC, and other miscellaneous support systems
• Leadership and delivery of complex engineering design projects in an operating environment
• Innovative and creative problem solving, data-driven root cause analysis
• Risk based Asset Management
• Continuous improvement, Quality Control/Quality Assurance
• Experience with managing the services of outside consultants
• Planning, organizing, directing, reviewing, and evaluating the activities of professional staff and contract consultants on assigned engineering projects
• Ability to establish Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for the team
• Experience in preparing and administering department/program budgets and contracts
• Ability to interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws and regulations
• Ability to respond to the field and troubleshoot issues

Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five (5) years of (full-time equivalent) verifiable mechanical engineering experience, which must have included at least (2) two years of administrative and supervisory experience.

License or Certificate: Registration as a professional mechanical engineer in the State of California.

Other Requirements: Must have a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Must possess sufficient physical mobility to inspect construction in progress or run varied equipment tests.
