Role

We are seeking a proven and visionary Director of Engineering, AI Products to lead our engineering efforts for emerging AI products. This leadership role is responsible for building the technical foundation for identity and security for AI agents. You will lead a high-performing engineering organization, working closely with product management and business leaders to bring innovative identity solutions to market.

What you will do

You will be a key player in shaping our company's overall strategy, ensuring our technical solutions deliver significant value to customers building with AI. The ideal candidate has a strong background in software engineering leadership and a deep understanding of identity & security. Your work will directly impact initiatives such as Auth0 for AI Agents, Auth for MCP, Developer Platform Integrations, and the Partner Portal.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Leadership & Strategy: Define the long-term technical vision and strategy for our AI-focused engineering teams. Drive architectural and technical decisions to build scalable, secure, and reliable solutions for the AI and agentic ecosystem.
  • Team Management & Development: Lead and mentor a team of software engineers. Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Ensure the team has the skills and resources to execute on the product roadmap.
  • Execution & Delivery: Oversee the end-to-end development lifecycle, from system design and coding to deployment and maintenance. Translate a compelling roadmap into a detailed engineering plan in partnership with product managers.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product management, design, and other engineering teams to gather requirements, prioritize features, and ensure successful product launches. Serve as the technical authority on bringing identity solutions to the AI world.
  • Technical Excellence: Drive best practices for code quality, security, and performance. Ensure the team builds robust and maintainable systems.
  • Thought Leadership: Represent the company as a subject matter expert in the intersection of identity, security, and AI, staying current with AI advancements and their implications for security and authentication.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Extensive experience in software engineering leadership, with at least 2+ years in a Director-level or equivalent role.
  • Proven experience leading and managing multiple engineering teams.
  • Deep understanding of the identity and access management (IAM) space and the challenges of securing modern applications.
  • Familiarity with the AI ecosystem, including AI agents, large language models (LLMs), and how they interact with APIs and data.
  • Demonstrated success in building and scaling complex technical platforms or API products.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills and a data-driven approach to decision-making.

Compensation & Benefits

The annual base salary range for California-based candidates is between $266,000 and $398,000 USD. Actual base salary depends on skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending accounts, and paid leave in accordance with applicable plans and policies. Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area. The precise amount will be determined by factors such as skills and experience. Okta may offer additional compensation components.
