Job Title: Medical Dosimetrist
Job Summary:
The Medical Dosimetrist is a key member of the radiation oncology team, responsible for designing and calculating optimal radiation treatment plans for cancer patients. Working under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist and in collaboration with Medical Physicists and Radiation Therapists, the Dosimetrist ensures precise dose distribution to tumors while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and generate complex radiation treatment plans using 3D, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, and other advanced planning techniques.
Calculate dose distributions and monitor unit calculations for radiation delivery.
Collaborate with radiation oncologists and physicists to create safe, effective treatment plans tailored to patient-specific anatomy and diagnosis.
Utilize CT, MRI, and PET imaging to delineate target volumes and organs at risk.
Conduct quality assurance checks on plans and verify treatment parameters.
Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with clinical protocols, hospital policies, and regulatory guidelines.
Assist in the development of departmental protocols and participate in process improvement initiatives.
Stay up to date with advancements in dosimetry, radiation technology, and treatment planning software.
Educate and provide guidance to new dosimetrists, residents, or students, as applicable.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field (Radiation Therapy, Physics, or similar) is typically required.
Completion of a formal dosimetry training program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or equivalent experience.
Certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) is strongly preferred or required by most employers.
Proficiency in treatment planning systems such as Eclipse, Pinnacle, RayStation, or Monaco.
