About The Role: Lead the engineering team focused on our core initiative to advance Outschool Memberships and build innovative solutions that make alternative education (Alt-Ed) more accessible and engaging for families and learners worldwide.
This role blends technical depth with leadership, enabling you to shape how families discover, engage with, and stay connected to learning on Outschool. You'll work at the forefront of experimentation to create engaging experiences that turn students into lifelong learners. Outschool grew rapidly during the pandemic and is now investing in deeper, more seamless educational pathways to meet evolving family needs. Your contributions will directly impact our mission to inspire kids to love learning by making high-quality, interest-based education more discoverable and engaging.

Core Responsibilities:
- Lead an engineering team and partner closely with cross-functional leads
- Oversee the design, development, and evolution of discovery, personalization, and classroom features, ensuring they are performant, user-centric, and aligned with our mission
- Collaborate with product, design, marketing, and analytics to drive core initiatives that lower barriers to learning and encourage ongoing engagement
- Mentor engineers, provide feedback, and support professional growth while maintaining a culture of technical excellence and ownership
- Coordinate with Product & Design to scope and prioritize work across all streams
Desired Experience & Skills:
- 7-10+ years as a web application developer
- 5+ years of experience managing software teams of 5-10 engineers
- Experience growing senior or staff ICs and leads
- Experience in performance management, including conduct of reviews and providing feedback
- Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
- Ability to oversee multiple parallel projects from planning to execution and on-time delivery
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound technical decisions
- Ability to align team goals with business objectives and contribute to strategic planning
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding software engineers

- Practical experience applying AI to improve learning experiences, content discovery, or personalization
Outschool is recruiting for this role in the Bay Area and salary will reflect local compensation and cost of living. Only candidates located in the Bay Area will be considered. The salary range is $225,000 - $280,000 USD.
