Full Stack Engineer

Company Description

Our client is a fast-growing venture-backed healthcare AI startup based in the Financial District of San Francisco. Backed by Khosla Ventures and partnered with top-tier institutions like the Mayo Clinic, UC Health System, and Johns Hopkins, this team is building an AI-powered oncology assistant to deliver Mayo Clinic-level care to every cancer patient, regardless of location.

With access to over 400 million clinical notes and 90 million medical images, as well as privileged early access to frontier OpenAI models (months before public release), they're solving some of the most pressing challenges in healthcare using AI. This is a mission-driven company where everyone on the team has a personal connection to cancer.

They are now looking for 2-3 Full Stack Engineers to join their early team (hires #4-6) and help drive the technical roadmap forward at a critical inflection point.
What You Will Do

• Design, build, and deploy full-stack systems from 0 to 1 that power their AI oncology platform.
• Own product architecture, feature delivery, and performance optimization end-to-end.
• Work with massive medical datasets and integrate frontier AI models into production systems.
• Collaborate directly with the CTO and founding team in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
• Contribute to shaping the company's culture, development practices, and technical roadmap.
• Push boundaries in agentic AI, model alignment, and healthcare-specific tooling.

Ideal Candidate Background

• 2-5 years of full-stack engineering experience with strong proficiency in both frontend and backend systems.
• Proven experience working at early-stage startups (Seed-Series B, <50 people), ideally as a technical hire or early team member.
• A history of launching products from scratch (0 → 1) with measurable business or user outcomes.
• Experience with healthcare platforms such as oncology software, EHR systems, clinical decision tools, or telehealth apps.
• Technical degree (Computer Science or related) from a top university.
• Demonstrated scrappiness, autonomy, and impact in high-growth environments.

Preferred Experience

• Frontend: React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS (or similar design systems).
• Backend: Python, FastAPI, Django, PyTorch or JAX.
• Strong knowledge of AI/LLM tooling, including but not limited to:
  
  • Multi-agent systems (planner-executor frameworks, tool-calling agents)
  • LLM finetuning, RAG/KAG, RLHF, LoRA/PEFT, model post-training.
• Experience building and deploying applications on AWS with modern CI/CD pipelines.
• Exposure to high-pressure, high-impact environments (e.g., ex-founder, Olympiad finalists, national champions, etc.).
• Mission-first mentality - this work has direct, visible patient impact.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base Salary: $150,000 - $250,000 depending on experience.
• Equity: Top decile - significantly above market standard for early-stage roles.
