Founding Engineer (Open Source Focus)

Location: On-site in Downtown San Francisco
Compensation: $150,000 - $200,000 + 0.5% - 2.0% equity
Visa Sponsorship: Available on a case-by-case basis

About the Role

We're looking for our first Founding Engineer to help build the future of infrastructure tooling with us in San Francisco. As a critical early hire, you'll own our product end-to-end-from frontend interfaces and backend APIs to infrastructure, CLIs, and open-source tooling. If you're excited about shaping developer experiences and building with and for the community, this role is for you.

This position is deeply technical and product-focused. You will play a pivotal role in shaping both our open-source and commercial offerings and working closely with the founding team to define the product roadmap.
What You'll Work On

• Build and scale our core open-source infrastructure automation tooling (currently the highest priority).
• Own the development and architecture of end-to-end product features across our stack: React, TypeScript, Go, and various DevOps tooling.
• Triage and resolve issues raised by our growing OSS community.
• Collaborate with users and contributors to ensure the product meets real-world developer and infrastructure engineer needs.
• Help define engineering culture, best practices, and internal processes.
• Contribute to or lead high-impact initiatives such as new product lines, performance optimizations, and integrations with tools like Terraform, Kubernetes, and AWS.

You Might Be a Fit If You...

• Have 2-8 years of experience as a fullstack product engineer building 0→1 products.
• Previously worked at a VC-backed startup (Seed-Series B) in a fast-paced, product-driven environment.
• Are passionate about DevTools, infrastructure, or open-source software.
• Have deep experience or genuine interest in IaC / DevOps / SRE tooling like Terraform, Kubernetes, AWS, Pulumi, and Golang.
• Are comfortable working across the stack and picking up new tools and languages as needed.
• Can design and implement clean, performant UIs and appreciate developer ergonomics.
• Take initiative, are user-driven, and enjoy working closely with other engineers, founders, and external contributors.

Bonus Points For...

• Previous role as a CTO or Founding Engineer.
• Prior contributions to open-source projects or leadership in OSS communities.
• Education from top CS/math/startup schools (e.g., Berkeley, Stanford, Harvard, Waterloo).
• Interest in working at the intersection of AI, developer experience, and infrastructure.
