Bioinformatics Scientist (hybrid in South San Francisco)
Job Description
Twist is seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist to join our Biopharma Bioinformatics team. You will work alongside research scientists, software engineers, and data scientists to further develop innovative computational solutions, contributing to accelerating and scaling Twist Biopharma Solutionss offerings. You will primarily develop Bioinformatics solutions for processing NGS data and designing novel sequence variants. Our ideal candidate demonstrates scientific creativity and is comfortable with standard Bioinformatics tools and techniques. Also, strong communication skills and a balanced ability to work independently and as a team member are desired.
What youll be doing:
- Development of software solutions for storing, querying, processing, and visualizing biological data and sequences.
- Utilizing data science techniques and frameworks, including modeling (e.g., entity relationship diagrams), analysis (e.g., pandas, numpy, scikit-learn), and visualization (e.g., matplotlib, plotly)
- Contribute to the development of traditional as well as AI/ML-based solutions to design novel antibody sequences using LLMs.
- Analyze output from wet lab assays (expression, binding data, developability assessment, etc.) and process large, high content datasets to produce data reports and automated analysis pipelines.
- Collaborate with internal members throughout all phases of R&D workflows, analyzing Bioinformatics requirements, addressing the requirements quickly, and providing technical support.
- Follow and establish software development best practices, including specification (gathering requirements), conceptualization, coding, testing, deployment, maintenance, and code versioning/management.
What youll bring to the team:
- Master or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related scientific discipline with a minimum of 0-1 years related experience (industry experience preferred).
- Strong foundational coding skills in Python.
- Demonstrated experience in antibody and/or other therapeutic proteins for discovery and engineering applications.
- Understanding of LLMs and/or neural network models for sequence design
- Demonstrated experience in analyzing biological datasets (e.g., NGS), visualizing the results (e.g., interactive plots), and utilizing common file formats (e.g., FASTA, FASTQ).
- Basic understanding of cloud computing, workflow management systems, and CI/CD pipelines.
- High interest in learning and contributing to developing web applications (e.g., Django, React) and utilizing database management systems (e.g., PostgreSQL).

The base cash compensation for this California-based role is below. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package. Final compensation amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate skill, experience, expertise, and location and may vary from the amount listed above. Compensation may be different in other locations.
