Job Summary

As the UCSF Industry Documents Library Education & Outreach Specialist, you'll coordinate efforts to promote and deliver the Industry Documents Library's collections, programs, and research and education services to a wide audience of scholars, scientists, historians, journalists, public health experts, and community health advocates. You'll help to create educational and reference resources including subject guides, video tutorials, and interactive workshops, and will promote these materials through blog posts, newsletter articles, and other outreach channels to increase engagement with IDL's research community. Your role is supervised by the Director of the Industry Documents Library in close collaboration with the Associate University Librarian for Collections / University Archivist, and also works with Industry Documents Library (IDL) team, which is part of the Archives & Special Collections (ASC) unit. Please note this is a half-time, limited-term position.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $38.08 - $52.43 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

UCSF Archives & Special Collections (ASC) is a dynamic health sciences research center that preserves past knowledge, enables collaborative research, and translates scientific research into patient care. The UCSF Industry Documents Library (IDL) is a digital archive of more than 20 million documents from industries that influence public health. The IDL supports research on the commercial determinants of health and is heavily used by scholars, legal professionals, policymakers, journalists, community organizations, and the public.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training
  • At least 3 years of experience in a related role
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve complex problems, and to recommend solutions
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including diplomacy and tact in dealing with a variety of people and situations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Willingness and ability to learn new tools and workflows; ability to try different approaches
  • Strong project management skills; ability to organize, prioritize, and use good judgement and initiative
  • Ability to work collaboratively across domains and subject areas
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail
  • Thorough knowledge of a full range of specialized subject area activities, potentially from library experience and related training
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable systems and databases
  • Knowledge of library data transformation techniques and software tools; ability to evaluate and adopt new technology
