Job Summary

The Audio Visual (AV) Services Engineer will support the strategic design, implementation, and maintenance of UCSF's AV systems and infrastructure. This role entails providing engineering and technical support to ensure the seamless operation of AV infrastructure, minimizing downtime, and optimizing efficiency. The Engineer's responsibilities include designing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining AV equipment across various platforms. Additionally, the AV Services Engineer may offer technical guidance and training to other ITS teams, ensuring adherence to industry best practices in all technology-related procedures.

The AV Services Engineer will positively impact UCSF's operations and culture by ensuring UCSF's IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the University's mission. The AV Services Engineer will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across customers and stakeholders. This role will execute UCSF's vision while modeling UCSF's culture and values.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $69,700 - $149,900 (Annual Rate).

The Digital Workplace Services team within Infrastructure Services is responsible for managing and maintaining UCSF's integrated communications, collaboration, and AV systems. This encompasses a wide array of technologies such as telephony, voicemail, AV technology, video conferencing, and collaboration platforms. The department ensures seamless connectivity and efficient communication across various departments, supporting the institution's mission of providing high-quality healthcare, education, and research. The team plays a crucial role in implementing and optimizing digital workplace solutions to meet the diverse needs of faculty, clinicians, staff, and students, ultimately enhancing operational efficiency and collaboration within UCSF.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of experience/training in information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration, or communications.
  • 3 to 5+ years of experience in AV technology, unified communications, information technology, or network operations.
  • Proficiency in AV technologies, including understanding of audio/video signal flow, AV equipment functionality, audio, video, and communications circuitry, AV IT control systems, and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with AV integration principles, including design, installation, and troubleshooting of AV systems.
  • Strong technical skills in configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining AV systems and equipment.
  • Experience managing phases of AV projects from scope through final walk-through, including testing of installed AV IT equipment.
  • Analytical skills to assess AV requirements, evaluate technical solutions, and make informed recommendations.
  • Understanding of networking concepts and protocols relevant to AV systems, such as IP, VLANs, and streaming protocols.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations; knowledge of audio, video, control systems and cabling requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to present technical concepts to diverse audiences in clear, business-friendly terms.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to manage multiple projects and work with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of software and tools used in AV design and engineering (CAD, AV control systems, DSP programming platforms).
  • Experience designing AV solutions with detailed schematics, flow diagrams, infrastructure drawings, equipment layouts, and system diagrams.
  • Experience in complex higher education environments (academic, medical, research, and administrative functions).
  • AVIXA CTS, CTS-D, or CTS-I; CCNA; Manufacturer certifications (Crestron, Extron, QSC, etc.).
