This role is based at our HQ in Richmond, CA. In-office expectation is 4 days a week.
Senior Copywriter at Mountain Hardwear – joining to help craft brand and product marketing copy across multi-channel channels, reporting to the MHW Brand Creative Director.
With the relaunch of our brand look, feel, and tone of voice in 2023, our marketing creative continues to differentiate Mountain Hardwear and affirm our position as both a tenured yet forward-positioned brand. We need a sharp, driven, experienced copywriter to help us continue to seek our wilder path. The role involves shaping messaging for campaigns, print and digital ads, emails, website product copy, hang tags, product names, video storyboarding, event messaging, and more. The copy must work in close collaboration with visual creatives and graphic designers to strengthen the link between words and images. Deep knowledge of the outdoor industry and the pursuits we engineer product for is required, along with the ability to toggle between high-level emotional copy and technical, benefit-led product copy.
How You'll Make a Difference
- Work directly with the MHW Brand Creative Director to communicate the brand consistently across all channels and define and evolve brand voice and identity according to strategy.
- Craft each season's messaging framework and all product copy with the highest editorial standard, expressing brand emotion and a high level of product technicality.
- Collaborate daily with visual creatives / graphic designers in Figma to shape, iterate, and strengthen the link between visual and written creative marketing.
- Write accurate and action-inspiring email, web, and product copy while crafting overarching stories, themes, and campaigns.
- Write with an understanding of online promotions, AP Style, and SEO principles to align content with best practices and MHW brand standards.
- Create seasonal product copy for Product Description Pages (PDP) and merchandising deliverables to improve engagement, conversion, and customer satisfaction.
- Manage personal project timelines to ensure timely delivery of copy.
- Drive naming of product key styles and proprietary technical platforms – briefing, positioning, ideation, and selection.
- Foster close relationships with MHW Product and Ecomm Teams to thoroughly understand and concisely express each product, its position, reason to believe, and technicality.
- Organize and deliver copy in the content management system (Salsify).
- Stay attuned to wider outdoor culture to help root brand messaging in current times.
- Communicate clearly and kindly, both virtually and in person, with team members, internal clients, and external partners.
- Maintain updated copy guidelines for brand consistency and adhere to departmental guidelines and standard operating procedures.
YOU ARE
- Passionate, knowledgeable, and confident writing about the outdoors in pursuits like hiking, trail running, climbing, bouldering, snowboarding, and skiing.
- Interested in technical outdoor style and broader current style culture.
- A seasoned marketing copywriter with experience creating messaging frameworks that address top of funnel to bottom of funnel marketing.
- Curious and comfortable asking questions to get it right the first time.
- An incredibly nuanced, extremely organized, highly motivated wordsmith able to self-edit.
- Successful in directly interacting with and building relationships with internal and external collaborators by being a clear, kind, eloquent communicator.
- Flexible and able to juggle multiple projects while remaining inspired and positive.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient in Google Suite and MS Word Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
YOU HAVE
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field (i.e. Journalism, Creative Writing, Liberal Arts).
- Minimum of 5+ years as a copywriter in-agency or in-house, copywriting and concepting (experience copywriting for a consumer-facing brand in a DTC business and/or global brand experience preferred).
- Strong ability to distill complex ideas into simple, clear, and resonant expressions.
- Extreme attention to detail and a “less is more” approach to copywriting.
- Experience utilizing modern AI tools and prompt engineering to streamline repetitive workflows and scale projects.
- Proven writing capabilities with a strong grasp of spelling, grammar, and creative expression relevant to brand-specific copywriting.
- Ability to adapt messaging to the best practices of different channels and devices.
- Ability to present work and explain the strategic and creative thinking behind the work – and act on feedback to improve messaging effectiveness.
- Ability to handle high-volume work – fast-paced copy needs as well as longer timeline seasonal copy needs.
- Strong experience writing copy for a consumer-facing brand in a DTC business.
- Strong problem-solving ability when working within a corporate matrix.
