Position Overview

Cooley is seeking a Knowledge Management Attorney to join the Practice Engineering team within the Innovation department. This role involves designing and implementing document automation software, creating standard forms, guidance, and training materials, and working closely with product engineers and managers to model practice group workstreams. The attorney will also monitor legal and regulatory developments.

Responsibilities

  1. Develop and maintain standard forms, precedents, and guidance materials with practice group leadership.
  2. Coordinate the deployment and maintenance of knowledge across software platforms.
  3. Serve as a subject matter expert for practice group attorneys and cross-functional teams.
  4. Prepare thought leadership materials for attorneys and clients.
  5. Prioritize form collection and automation projects based on business value and feedback.
  6. Assist in automation efforts and develop testing methodologies for legal language deployment.
  7. Conduct usability and accessibility testing to improve legal software.
  8. Identify and mitigate risks associated with AI-powered and software-produced legal work products.
  9. Promote continuous learning and foster collaboration among teams.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, iManage, and similar applications.
  • Ability to work extended hours and travel as needed.
  • 5+ years of practicing attorney experience, preferably in a large law firm.
  • Active bar membership or registered in-house counsel status.
  • Juris Doctor or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in structuring forms for ease of maintenance.

  • Industry knowledge and familiarity with major players in the practice area.
  • Problem-solving skills involving technical and legal coordination.
  • Project management experience.
  • Self-starter attitude with proactive issue raising.

Compensation ranges from $235,000 to $310,000 annually, depending on location and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, parental leave, and PTO.
