Overview

Director of Engineering, Machine Learning at a mission-driven organization rethinking how people connect. This is a high-leverage role for a leader who can drive both strategy and execution at the intersection of machine learning, product innovation, and user experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of intelligent, data-driven systems that enhance personalization, recommendations, and marketplace efficiency.
• Manage and grow a team of 15+ ML and software engineers, including senior individual contributors and engineering managers.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams in Product, Data Science, and Design to deliver innovative, user-centric solutions.
• Define and scale processes around model experimentation, deployment, and monitoring.
• Help shape the organization's approach to AI and GenAI, including the role of agentic experiences.
• Cultivate an engineering culture grounded in technical excellence, mentorship, and mission alignment.

What We're Looking For

• Strong background in applied machine learning, particularly within multi-sided platforms or recommendation systems.
• Demonstrated success leading engineering large teams through growth and organizational change.
• Proven experience delivering high-impact ML products and infrastructure at scale.
• Ability to balance deep technical thinking with product and business insight.
• Strong communicator and collaborator across diverse technical and non-technical teams.
• Committed to building inclusive, equitable teams where engineers can thrive.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with foundational models, RAG, or vector-based search.
• Experience working within regulated or international environments.
