Overview

Founding Product Engineer – AI Startup (On-site in SF). An early-stage AI company backed by $15M in funding is hiring their Founding Product Engineer — the first technical hire working directly with the founders (ex-Anthropic, McKinsey, Thiel Fellows). This is a rare chance to shape the product, culture, and technical direction of a company tackling the next frontier of AI risk, safety, and agent evaluation.

Base pay range

$200,000.00/yr - $350,000.00/yr

Responsibilities

• Build the gold standard for AI agent evals, reliability, and risk tooling (e.g., hallucination detection, jailbreak prevention, brand-safe filters, and more).
• Ship quickly, speak to customers daily, and own end-to-end problems in a fast-paced, zero-to-one environment.
• Be the first technical hire, working directly with founders to shape product, culture, and technical direction.

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of hands-on product engineering experience at top-tier startups (preferably in AI).
• Strong experience across Next.js, TypeScript, Python, React, and LLMs.
• Startup mindset: shipping > polishing; momentum > meetings.
• Willing to be on-site 5 days/week in San Francisco (relocation supported).
• 0.5–2.5% equity.
• SF-based office, 5 days/week.
