Overview

Customer Obsession Team is looking for a Data Scientist to join the team, a group responsible for ensuring every Uber customer support experience is extraordinary. This team builds self-service technology, including AI agents leveraging GenAI, that are deeply integrated with the Uber customer support experience, making it easier for our customers and customer support representatives to achieve the right outcome faster. We are responsible for building the models and algorithms that identify customer intentions, propose the best solutions, and help improve the overall customer experience with Uber.

Responsibilities

  • Build self-service technology, including AI agents leveraging GenAI, and continuously innovate and improve the Uber customer support experience for different personas, including AV customers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities, design, implement and analyze experiments, and perform deep dives to drive business impact.
  • Understand business goals and apply analytics, causal inference, experimentation and machine learning to provide practical insights to business partners.
  • Work closely with Engineering teams to create data instrumentation and improve data quality.
  • Communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders on technical topics.
  • Maintain focus and efficiency and navigate ambiguity.

Basic Qualifications

  • M.S. or Bachelors degree in Math, Economics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, or other quantitative fields.
  • A minimum of 3+ years of industry experience.
  • Advanced SQL expertise.
  • Solid understanding of experimental design (A/B experiments) and statistical methods.
  • Ability to extract insights from data and summarize findings.
  • Experience with Excel/Sheets and dashboarding/data visualization (e.g., Tableau, Mixpanel, Looker, or similar).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong storytelling: distill insights into a compelling, concise data story.
  • Advanced experience with experimental design and causal inference.
  • Effective communication and relationship management with partners from technical and non-technical backgrounds.
  • Excellent judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to tackle sophisticated business problems across multiple product/project areas and teams.
  • Balance attention to detail with swift execution.
  • Proven ability to identify key stakeholders and manage high expectations.

Compensation and Benefits

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD 140,000 per year to USD 156,000 per year. For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD 140,000 per year to USD 156,000 per year. In all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program and may be offered an equity award and other types of compensation. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
