The energy industry is undergoing rapid and dramatic changes, transforming the utility landscape to enhance safety, reliability, and sustainability. Jacobs is expanding its Energy & Power Solutions team to tackle decarbonization and utility modernization to deliver a cleaner and more secure energy future. We have multiple positions available for engineers and project management professionals working with utility and power development clients as we expand our energy transition portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Manage and grow a project team of engineers through all phases from concept to commissioning and close-out of high voltage transmission, substation, and distribution facilities in the power industry.
- Lead cross-disciplinary teams to ensure delivery aligns with client expectations and project objectives.
- Prepare and/or update financial forecasts, project schedules, and other reports on a weekly or monthly basis per the Client's Project Management process.
- Lead project meetings, capture minutes, and disseminate actions to project team members.
- Manage client relationships to ensure expectations are understood and met; collaborate with the Jacobs team to address client concerns.
- Monitor projects to minimize risk and adhere to budget, schedule, scope, and quality; identify and mitigate risks as they arise.
- Manage project communications and respond to inquiries from client management or support teams.
- Alert stakeholders if the project forecasted budget or schedule is at risk or if significant issues arise.
- Coordinate administrative activities including purchase orders, change orders, work status verification, invoicing, and overall project status updates.
- Coordinate engineering design development, drawing submittals, and quality review processes.
- Resolve emergent field issues in compliance with codes, environmental, and safety requirements.
- Track and manage project compliance (non-regulatory and regulatory) and support siting / permitting, municipality, and abutter issues.
- Lead contractor sourcing activities including issuing RFPs, bid analysis, and award recommendations.
- Identify and pursue business opportunities with existing or new clients; support proposals or other materials for new business opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program or an advanced management / business degree.
- Minimum of 7 years' experience managing electric power projects comprising high voltage transmission lines, cables, and/or substations.
- Specific experience delivering HV power transmission, distribution, and/or substation projects for utilities, grid-scale facilities, large commercial or government facilities. Data Centers experience a plus.
- Experience managing all phases of major energy delivery projects (> $25 million) from concept to commissioning and close-out.
- Experience with multidisciplinary project delivery teams (electrical, civil, structural, environmental, siting and permitting, commissioning, testing, and general contractor scopes).
- Experience with document control, project control, and cost control software; ability to learn client systems.
- Ability to work independently and lead cross-functional teams with multi-level stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SAP.
- Strong technical, analytical, and organizational skills; excellence in presenting and proposal development; strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Willing to travel to project sites and attend client meetings.
- Experience with general PM processes used in the utility industry.
Desired But Not Required Skills And Experience
- PMP Certification
- Experience as Program/Project Manager delivering HV substations and transmission lines for IOUs in the U.S.
- Engineering degree with FE or PE license
- Construction, commissioning, and startup experience
- Experience with Data Centers Construction, Cluster Study, and Large Load Interconnection Process
Additional information
Hybrid position. Expect in-office presence 2-3 days per week. Local candidates or those willing to relocate in the Oakland and Northern California area.

The base salary range for this position is $133,600.00 to $179,000.00. Within the range, pay is determined by location and other factors such as skills, experience, and education.
