Why the Cohere EPM role?
As our Generative Machine Learning (GenML) organization grows, we are looking for an Engineering Program Manager (EPM) to join the team. At Cohere, EPMs are pivotal to our success, acting as operational experts who excel in cross-functional initiatives. Great EPMs are organized, execution-oriented, pragmatic, and adaptable, able to handle both tactical execution and strategic oversight, with opportunities to impact the scale and effectiveness of our programs. You will work alongside leading AI researchers and industry experts on cutting-edge AI technology in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
As An Engineering Program Manager, You Will
- Establish, improve, and scale foundational team-level and program-level processes for Generative Modeling teams
- Partner with Gen ML modeling leadership and Technical Staff on design, training, and improvement of core generative models
- Run cross-functional, company-wide programs, coordinating with Product, Engineering, Legal, Design, and others to deliver models on time, within budget and scope
- Map dependencies and risks, communicate status to technical and non-technical stakeholders and senior management
- Coordinate with internal partner teams (Data, Evaluation, Safety, Model Efficiency, Model Serving) on cross-team planning and execution
- Troubleshoot cross-team challenges and build dependable internal and external partnerships
- Maintain clear communication of priorities, ideas, and knowledge across the organization
- Respond quickly to program-level changes and marshal resources to evolving priorities
You May Be a Good Fit If You
- Have 3-5 years as an Engineering Program Manager or Technical Program Manager and 2+ years of experience working on AI/ML-powered products; bonus for experience with foundation models
- Have in-depth knowledge of machine learning, particularly NLP and Large Language Models (LLMs); bonus for Multimodal AI experience
- Thrives in chaotic, fast-paced, low-structure environments; pragmatic, hands-on, and able to operate at both tactical and strategic levels
- Have hands-on understanding of challenges in AI/ML development; be prepared to discuss experiences
- Optional but preferred: experience with ML-adjacent programs (Data & Evaluation, Capacity Planning, Model Serving / Efficiency)
- Optional but preferred: hands-on technical experience and comfort collaborating with researchers on complex ML projects
