Job Summary

The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting and facilitating pharmacy operations and other tasks as the Pharmacist deems necessary. Applicants must be able to maintain ethical and professional behavior that reflects a positive attitude representing the pharmacy department as well as the University.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Data entry, insurance billing.
  • Ensures efficient, accurate, and timely distribution of medications dispensed in the pharmacy.
  • Maintains and tracks medication inventory.
  • Able to operate computers to process, store, and retrieve health information.
  • Clerical duties such as customer service, using the cash register and ensuring the tidiness of the pharmacy.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Must be able to multi-task in a busy environment.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Perform tasks as assigned by the pharmacist.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: General education, High School Diploma, GED, or BA or BS degrees.
  • Experience: 1 year of experience working in a retail or customer service setting.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
  • Able to use computers and technology at a proficient level.
  • Ability to actively listen to customers and healthcare professionals.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: BA or BS degree.
  • Bilingual: Fluent in English and Spanish.
Essential Job Duties

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service:
  • Answer phone calls in an efficient, friendly manner and is able to prioritize and communicate information appropriately
  • Type prescriptions efficiently and accurately and be able to process them through insurance appropriately.
  • Must check for sufficient reimbursement for processed claims
  • Fill and label prescriptions accurately, safely, and expediently (Technician ONLY)
  • Able to operate computers to process, store, and retrieve health information
  • Data entry, insurance billing prescriptions
  • Provide translation when needed for Spanish-speaking clients
  • Check customers out for over-the-counter items. Makes sure the correct medication is being received by the correct patient and the correct prices are being billed to the customer.
  • This also includes walking to provide curbside pick-up to differently-abled persons and collecting signatures when needed
Key Responsibilities

Inventory Management:
  • Unpack, sticker, and properly store inventory
  • Periodically examine inventory for expired, soon to be expired medications and quarantine appropriately
  • Analyze and predict medication inventory usage to maintain an adequate medication supply
  • Effectively purchase medications in the most cost-effective manner
  • Maintains office supplies, packing supplies, front end inventory, and any other supplies
Key Responsibilities

Payments, Invoicing, and Miscellaneous:
  • Enter invoices into the university payment system (Banner)
  • Provide invoices to inter-departmental sales
  • Provide student/employee immunizations and test results to Health Office
  • Help with setting up health fairs/immunization clinics
  • Troubleshoot by communicating with appropriate help desks if systems fail
  • Making appointments for clinical the pharmacist uses the EPIC system
  • Other duties as assigned
