Director, Compensation Program Delivery

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Vice President Global Total Rewards (TR), the Director Comp Program Delivery will carve the path for TR in our evolution to a leading-edge, scalable, flexible, and efficient function. In this role, you will lead a team responsible for designing, administering, and delivering our compensation programs globally. You will play a key role in centralizing, optimizing, digitizing, and governing processes to ensure simplicity, consistency, and operational excellence while providing critical insights to support program evolution.

The Role:

Located in Foster City, responsibilities for the Director, Compensation Operations include, but are not limited to:

Process Design and Optimization

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of compensation processes to ensure efficient program delivery.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to streamline and optimize compensation workflows and processes, leveraging technology and best practices.
  • Break down existing processes and re-engineer them to create streamlined, scalable, and global solutions with defined SLAs and process documentation.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to optimize and digitize processes, ensuring they are efficient, user-friendly, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Maintain a strong focus on the experience of program users, ensuring processes are intuitive, accessible, and supportive of employee needs.
  • Establish metrics and reporting mechanisms to monitor process and program efficiency and impact.
  • Define and implement technology solutions for various compensation programs such as compensation modelers (cash and equity), annual market pricing review, compensation analytics and other programs, in partnership with the HR Technology and People Analytics team.

Operational Excellence

  • Establish and maintain protocols, standards, and SLAs for compensation program administration.
  • Monitor performance and compliance to ensure programs run consistently and accurately across regions.
  • Develop training materials and resources to equip internal teams with the knowledge needed for successful program execution.
  • Define roles and responsibilities of team to provide technical and analytical support to core compensation programs, including end-to-end global roll out and communications support.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Design and architect a centralized compensation operations function which will enable the efficient delivery of compensation programs, defining clear roles and responsibilities within the team, handoffs across teams and accountability.
  • Develop roadmap to review existing programs and processes, identify opportunities to scale, automate, transform and lead efforts to implement changes.
  • Partner with VP TR, TRLT, HRSS, PMO etc. in envisioning the future, and developing and putting plans in place to make this vision a reality.
  • Manage and mentor a team of compensation operations professionals.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and accountability.
  • Provide clear direction, goals, and feedback to empower team members to excel in their roles.
  • Come to every engagement with an enterprise mindset with an eye toward the future while ensuring team delivery in the moment/near term.

Insights and Reporting

  • Generate data-driven insights to support the continuous improvement of compensation programs, using tools such as Excel and other relevant data analytics platforms.
  • Develop dashboards and reports to track program effectiveness and identify actionable trends.
  • Design and lead Quarterly Business Review (QBR) meetings highlighting key achievements, upcoming initiatives, program metrics and lessons learned with the Global Compensation team.
  • Collaborate with program owners to understand program objectives and generate insights to enhance future program designs.

Qualifications

  • 12 years relevant experience with a B.S or B.A degree, preferably with an emphasis in HR or Business or 10 years relevant experience with a master's degree (preferred).
  • Experience leading teams in remote/hybrid and/or geographic disparate locations in a highly matrixed organization.
  • 5+ years of Compensation leadership experience
  • Transformational, enterprise and growth mindset.
  • In-depth knowledge of Compensation nuances and best practices in life sciences, healthcare, or biotech is preferred.
  • Proven experience in compensation operations, HR operations, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with compensation programs such as merit cycles, bonus plans, and equity administration.
  • Demonstrated success in compensation process design and optimization.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
  • Excellent leadership and team development capabilities.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and compensation management tools.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to engage effectively with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate curiosity and openness to understand current state and explore new ways of working.
  • Demonstrate strong business acumen with the ability to translate business objectives into Compensation priorities.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and independently determine and take appropriate action where precedent may not exist.
  • Inspire culture and institute key processes necessary to achieve long and short-term strategic goals.
