Sr. to Lead Applied Machine Learning Engineer - LLMs - Consumer Generative AI Startup – Mountain View, CA

The company is building a consumer product that involves generative AI. The team includes veterans from Google, Twitter, Coinbase, and top startups. The company is backed by leading investors and is rapidly growing.

Compensation: up to $250k salary, plus equity.

• Research (about 10-30% of the time): monitor GenAI developments and assess how they may influence the product direction.
• Design, build, and maintain LLM applications.
• Own the ML lifecycle, including data analysis and processing, model architecture and training, metrics/evaluation, and MLOps.
• Convey complex technical information to both LLM experts and non-AI practitioners.
• Collaborate with product engineers, designers, and data scientists to define and build cutting-edge AI solutions across the company.

• Expertise in modern LLM architectures and production-ready GenAI applications.
• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or related field.
• Proven machine learning experience with deployed AI models in real-world applications.
• Strong understanding of ML algorithms and data structures.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Familiarity with PyTorch, TensorFlow, NumPy, and JAX.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills to articulate design decisions.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.

• Authored or co-authored research papers or impactful technical blog posts.
• Active participation in open-source projects, Kaggle competitions, and similar initiatives.
• Startup experience.
• Ph.D. or equivalent experience.
