The Network Engineer position directly supports all the AES Clean Energy networks, firewalls, switches, and related network equipment. The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards and AES Global Standards.
The Network Engineer serves as a key point of contact and technical expert supporting the AES Clean Energy Assets. They will manage project network documentation, and remediation activities and communicate compliance results to OT Management Team.
This position is a NERC-regulated position. As such, a background check in the form of a Transport Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) is required for this position.
The candidate must have a strong working knowledge of routers, firewalls, business-to-business tunnels, and switches. In addition, a strong working knowledge of secure networking concepts is required. An understanding of the NERC CIP Standards is a definite plus.This position requires excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and the ability to perform duties effectively under emergency situations.
Responsibilities
Configure, deploy, and support Cisco SD-WAN environments.
Manage Cisco FMC and FTD firewalls, as well as Palo Alto firewalls.
Configure and troubleshoot IPSec VPN tunnels for site-to-site and remote access.
Support routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP) in enterprise and OT environments.
Implement and support Cisco ISE policies for secure network access.
Monitor and troubleshoot network performance issues using SNMP and other tools.
Provide L2/L3 support for network incidents, escalating as needed.
Document configurations, changes, and troubleshooting steps.
Travel up to 25% for project deployments, site support, and network cutovers.
Qualifications
3-5 years of hands-on experience in network engineering.
Strong knowledge of Cisco SD-WAN and Cisco FMC/FTD.
Experience with Palo Alto firewalls.
Solid understanding of routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP).
Experience with IPSec tunnels and VPN troubleshooting.
Familiarity with Cisco ISE and SNMP monitoring.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
Preferred
CCNA/CCNP, PCNSE, or equivalent certifications.
Experience in OT/industrial environments.
