Job Summary
This is a Faculty appointment position within the Western University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine and is offered in conjunction with an Administrative appointment. Together, the Faculty appointment role (PCN 100100, 0.90 FTE) and the administrative role of Associate Dean of BioMed Science (PCN 998331, 0.10 FTE) comprise a full-time position (1.0 FTE / 5 days per week).
The salary range listed in this posting represents the total compensation for the combined faculty and administrative responsibilities. Please refer to the corresponding job posting under our Administration jobs section for details on the additional assignment.Primary Purpose: A faculty appointment of 0.90 FTE in combination with the Associate Dean for Research and Bio-Med Sciences of 0.10 FTE for a total FTE of 1.0 FTE. This position is located at Western University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine in Pomona, California. This faculty member is a member of our collaborative team of basic science, dental scientist and dental faculty. This high performing educational team is responsible for the development and delivery of the pre-doctoral biomedical sciences curriculum. The WesternU CDM biomedical sciences curriculum provides students with an innovative approach that integrates foundational sciences, clinical sciences and objective driven, case-based approaches delivered in an active learning environment.

Required Qualifications - Education: Ph.D., D.D.S, M.D. or equivalent from an accredited institution. Teaching and research experience in an academic health center environment is required.
- Experience: Willingness to participate in the design and delivery of a series of highly integrated (interdisciplinary and interprofessional integration) human systems courses for dental students.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience: Discipline specific emphasis in medicine, physiology, and/or pathology. Training and experience in conducting biomedical research. Essential Job Duties
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching:- Assist in developing and implementing curriculum, methods of instruction and those aspects of student life which relate to the basic science educational process as assigned.
- Effectively fulfill lecture, seminar and/or clinical assignments and responsibilities as assigned.
- Independently design and present courses or portions of courses utilizing an appropriate combination of instructional methodologies, including lecture, seminar, laboratory, problem-based learning, case-based learning, and/or online modules as assigned.
- Prepare appropriate student assessments in courses or portions of courses including quizzes, examinations, projects, oral examinations, portfolios, and/or clinical performance evaluations as assigned.
- Conduct classes and learning assignments according to the published schedule.
- Maintain intellectual integrity and strive for academic excellence.
- At the beginning of each course, provide students with a syllabus indicating material to be covered, related assignments, competencies to be achieved, and methods of evaluation.
- Promote adequate standards of linguistic expression in writing and speech.
- Maintain current records of the progress, including grades, of each student enrolled in his/her class.
- Keep on file in an appropriate location an outline and list of goals and objectives for each lecture, including terminal WesternU College of Dental Medicine competencies supported by that lecture.
- Assist with the implementation of an efficient, patient-centered dental practice that supports the educational mission of the College.
- Assist with the implementation of the continuum of the dental students' clinical experience from the foundational clinical skills in the dental simulation clinic to patient-centered care that integrates basic and behavioral science, as appropriate.
Key ResponsibilitiesAcademic Advising:- Be readily available to students for mentoring and consultation.
- Advise students regarding curriculum, graduation requirements, etc., and provide referrals as appropriate.
Key ResponsibilitiesResearch:- Establish and maintain scholarly activity in his/her area of expertise, as applicable.
- Meet requirements for promotion and tenure in the College, as applicable.
Key ResponsibilitiesService:- The faculty member has the right and obligation to participate in scheduled meetings of the general faculty.
- Election to or appointment to college and/or University committees should be considered a privilege and faculty members are encouraged to share in these responsibilities.
- Actively participate in appropriate professional societies and associations.

Minimum $170,000.00 Annually
