Overview

Senior Software Engineer, SPA at Material Security. This is a remote-first role with an early, fast-growing team of engineers working on the detection and analysis capabilities of our Phishing product and the performance and scale of our email platform.

We power Material's active protections and the platform that the rest of the product is built on.

Responsibilities

• Build scalable distributed systems capable of efficiently handling high throughput.
• Design, implement, and maintain scalable and robust software systems.
• Ship high-impact features or projects (in collaboration with product and security) while leveraging modern frameworks and tooling.
• Contribute to a strong engineering culture through active participation and mentorship.

What We're Looking For (Qualifications)

• Technical Ability: Solid software engineering fundamentals, strong coding ability, and problem-solving skills. Prolific but careful coders in at least one mainstream language with the ability to quickly learn new ones (e.g., TypeScript).
• Technical Maturity: Ability to write high-quality production code with thoughtful risk management.
• Ownership: Strong ownership mindset from planning to post-deployment monitoring and maintenance.
• Attitude & Ambition: Smart, hard-working, team-oriented, and willing to take the lead with minimal guidance.

Compensation & Benefits

Material Security is remote-first with an office in San Francisco, CA. Compensation is determined by factors including knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. Projected compensation range for this position is $190,000 - $220,000.
