Position Overview

Managing Principal at Amplytics | Energy Analytics & Advisory Services

We are seeking an experienced Consulting Director to lead our utilities-focused projects. In this role, you will drive strategic initiatives that help utility companies transform their operations through advanced analytics, data management solutions, and digital transformation strategies.

Responsibilities

• Lead client engagements with utility companies, focusing on data strategy, analytics implementation, and digital transformation initiatives
• Develop innovative solutions that address complex challenges in power generation, transmission, distribution, and customer operations
• Build and manage high-performing teams of data scientists, engineers, and analysts to deliver client projects
• Create compelling business proposals and presentations that demonstrate clear ROI for data-driven solutions
• Establish trusted advisor relationships with C-level executives and decision-makers in utility organizations
• Identify market trends and develop thought leadership to position the firm as an industry leader
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data analytics with other service offerings
• Drive practice growth through business development activities and strategic account planning

Qualifications

• Required: 10+ years of consulting experience, with at least 5 years focused on the utilities/energy sector
• Proven track record of leading large-scale data and analytics transformation projects for utility companies
• Deep understanding of utility business operations including generation, transmission, distribution, and customer service
• Strong technical knowledge of data management platforms, analytics tools, and emerging technologies relevant to utilities
• Experience with utility-specific use cases such as predictive maintenance, grid optimization, load forecasting, and customer analytics
• MBA or advanced degree in a relevant field (Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, etc.)
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and client relationship management skills
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts into business value for executive audiences

Preferred Experience

• Background in implementing advanced analytics solutions like machine learning models for utility asset management
• Knowledge of regulatory environments affecting utilities and related data governance requirements
• Experience with smart grid technologies, IoT implementations, and related data architecture
• Understanding of sustainability analytics and ESG reporting requirements for utility companies
• Prior experience with utility-specific data platforms and operational technology systems
• History of successful team building and talent development in consulting environments

Work Location

This position requires onsite presence at client locations and/or our San Francisco office up to 2 days per week. Candidates must reside within a commutable distance of the San Francisco Bay Area. This position is hybrid (partial remote/onsite) and is not eligible for full remote work.

Compensation

As required by California law, the base salary range for this position in San Francisco is $155,000 to $200,000. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
