Our office in Walnut Creek, CA is hiring for a Director, Estate Planning. The Director will lead firm-wide initiatives for Estate Planning and Trust Services, managing a collaborative team with a client-first approach, ensuring high-quality and responsive support for advisors in a fast-paced environment. This role requires strategic thinking, guidance provision, and managing trustee relationships across a nationwide client base. Salary Range: $200,000 - $220,000 plus annual bonus

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee estate planning and trust services strategies aligned with company goals.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to integrate estate planning and trust services.
  • Analyze data, documentation, or requests swiftly to determine appropriate actions.
  • Implement systems for innovation, scalability, and efficiency.
  • Coordinate with the Managing Director of Family Office Services to meet client goals.
  • Assist in department development and structuring.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of professionals and staff.
  • Oversee workload management and staffing needs.
  • Delegate effectively to ensure timely communication and execution.
  • Provide direction and mentorship while maintaining oversight.
  • Conduct internal meetings and collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Serve as a SME in estate planning, estate & gift tax planning.
  • Coordinate estate planning initiatives with other directors.
  • Work with Financial Planning to incorporate estate planning into financial plans.
  • Review trust and estate documents for advisory purposes.
  • Provide estate planning, tax, wealth succession, and charitable planning advice to clients.
  • Facilitate estate planning document preparation by outside counsel.
  • Maintain relationships with strategic partners and third-party trustees.
  • Guide trustees and mitigate fiduciary risks.
  • Review workflows involving trustees to ensure oversight.
  • Maintain documentation, templates, and procedures.
  • Oversee client disclaimers/disclosures and action plans.
  • Communicate with maturity and discretion.
  • Adhere to policies, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Partner with advisors to integrate estate planning into financial plans.
  • Collaborate on educational content and oversee firm intranet.
  • Train and guide advisors on estate planning matters.
  • Support business development efforts and participate in marketing initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience counseling on complex estate planning.
  • At least 3 years of trust administration experience (probate or litigation preferred).
  • Advanced degree meeting certification standards of a State Bar and accredited organization.
  • Proficient in estate planning tools and tax law.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and CRM software.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in public speaking and prospect meetings.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
  • Self-motivated with ethical judgment.
  • Strong client relations and problem-solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills for collaborative work.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise discretion.
