Job Summary

Assists the CFO and Treasurer in providing broad leadership over the University's Technical Accounting and Taxation processes and functions, and in providing collaborative leadership over the monthly, quarterly and annual Financial Reporting and Tax compliance and reporting functions of the University.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Individuals must possess knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
  2. Collaboratively leads in the coordination and preparation of quarterly financial statements and board reports while overseeing the broad accounting functions accounting functions that include monitoring and investigation of designated, restricted, operating funds, etc. by tracking expenses, maintaining records and monitoring available balances using fund accounting, budgets and separate funding.
  3. Monitors and maintains expertise in new laws and regulations relating to FASB pronouncements and IRS exemption codes and regulations impacting the University to ensure compliance in all areas.
  4. Financial reconciliations and internal auditing.
  5. Oversees the coordination of the annual Uniform Guidance and consolidated financial statement audits.
  6. Oversees the management of the working chart of accounts, including creation of new funds.
  7. Oversees the payment of property taxes, IRS filings and outside organization reporting, i.e. form 990, IPEDS, AACOM, etc.
  8. Oversees the implementation of accounting processes standard for higher education industry while managing the integrity of the University's accounting systems and records.
  9. Oversees the preparation and maintenance of policies and procedures.
  10. Collaboratively leads the monthly financial closing process.
  11. View information for proper support and compliance with internal and external practices.
  12. Provides mentorship and guidance to the Assistant Controller (and other UFS&T Team members) in the areas of financial reporting and technical accounting.

Required Qualifications

Individuals must possess knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. 1. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively interact with staff, auditors and any other outside contact. 2. Experience with automated accounting systems. Knowledge of spreadsheet and other accounting software applications. 3. Ability to organize, plan, direct and make sound judgment decisions.
Standard Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
Experience: Minimum of 7 years leadership experience in within the Accounting field.

Preferred Qualifications

CPA (Certified Public Accountant) licensure.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in higher education accounting leadership roles.

Essential Job Duties

Key Responsibilities

Collaboratively leads in the coordination and preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, as well as associated financial reports for the Board of Trustees while overseeing the broad accounting functions of the University.

Key Responsibilities

Monitors and maintains expertise in new laws and regulations relating to FASB pronouncements and IRS regulations impacting the University to ensure compliance in all areas.

Key Responsibilities

Oversees the University's financial close process including all Financial reconciliations and internal control processes.

Key Responsibilities

Oversees the coordination of all university financial audits, including the annual consolidated financial statement audit as well as the annual Uniform Guidance audit.

Oversees the management of the University general ledger and chart of accounts, including all fund types.

Key Responsibilities

Oversees the preparation and payment of University tax obligations, IRS filings, maintaining required filings to maintain tax-exempt status, and outside organization reporting, i.e. form 990, IPEDS, AACOM, etc.

Key Responsibilities

Oversees the implementation of accounting processes and internal controls standard for higher education industry while managing the integrity of the University's accounting systems and records, including preparation and maintenance of related policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Review information for proper support and compliance with internal and external practices, including the review and approval of journal entries.

Key Responsibilities

Provides mentorship and guidance to the Controller's office (and other UFS&T Team members) in the areas of financial reporting, tax, and technical accounting.

Key Responsibilities

Oversees and maintains Investment, Annuity, Endowment, and Fixed Asset activities in accordance with accounting and auditing standards.

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for tax matters pertaining to property, trusts, corporate, and payroll, and works directly with outside experts to gather appropriate information.
