Position Summary:
The Senior Accounting Manager will oversee the organization's accounting operations, including revenue recognition, cash transactions, and other financial activities. Reporting to the VP of Finance, this role ensures accurate audit preparation, timely month-end closes, and effective implementation of accounting policies. The position also involves managing ad hoc projects as they arise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform end-of-month reconciliations, including journal entries for revenue recognition.
  • Review and summarize general ledger activity for balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Finance to ensure timely completion of month-end tasks.
  • Partner with the Sponsored Project Office to document and close out deferred revenue and completed projects.
  • Reconcile restricted and unrestricted donations with Development team records.
  • Review and approve cash transaction entries.
  • Generate invoices and credit memos for various organizational functions, including fixed-fee and fixed-price projects.
  • Prepare accounts receivable schedules for the annual audit and address audit inquiries.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for the accounting system, providing troubleshooting support and coordinating with external consultants.
  • Maintain and update internal controls, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance and addressing potential violations in collaboration with the VP of Finance.
  • Oversee fixed assets, including government property research, disposal approvals, bi-annual inventories, and preparation of schedules for insurance renewals and claims.
  • Provide training and support for purchasing processes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve organizational goals, utilizing effective communication and teamwork.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting with 5+ years of experience. Biotech, research institute, or non-profit experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems (SAGE/Intacct highly desirable) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across all organizational levels.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills to handle shifting priorities.
  • Experience with ADP is a plus.
  • Discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
