Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARYThe Senior Plumbing Designer Leads a team of designers on large projects. Monitors long term project deadlines and ensures deliverables are met. Quality Control work done by less -experienced designers. What you'll do:Produce new and review existing plumbing designs identified in plans, specifications, submittals and shop drawings. Ensure compliance with engineering standards, codes, specifications and design instruction.Identify design, process and equipment options that can satisfy client requirements, minimize costs and limit potential operational problems.Interface directly with other disciplines and coordinate with client personnel, contractors, architects, and other project team members to ensure value engineering and the delivery of high quality projects within the prescribed time frames. Make presentations when necessary.Provide project management with engineering guidance and quality control.Monitor the progress of and coordinate with third-party engineering consulting firms that perform technical reviews of plumbing systems and LEED projects.Determine methods and solutions for complex engineering problems and identify the most efficient and acceptable resolution.Give direction to designers and junior engineers assisting with project development.Perform on-site field surveys. Write technical narratives in response to RFIs.Actively participate in project scheduling and budgeting.Maintain timely and accurate oral and written technical reports regarding assigned engineering activities.Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.What you'll need to be successful:Extensive knowledge of engineering and design techniques plus thorough understanding of all engineering disciplines for coordination purposesExtensive AutoCAD/BIM knowledge and experienceExtensive knowledge of Building Codes and Construction StandardsExcellent analytical and technical writing skillsExcellent verbal communication and presentation skillsExcellent time management skillsAbility to work autonomously and in a team environmentAdvanced computer proficiency, including MS OfficeWhat you bring to the table:4-yr. mechanical engineering degree or 10 years practical design experienceCurrent CPD and ASPE membership strongly preferredLEED-accredited Professional certification strongly preferred5+ years experience in designing and developing plumbing systems from concept to completionYOU Matter PEOPLE FIRST: BUILDING TALENT BY DESIGN At Southland we aspire to build a workforce that's as diverse as the people who occupy the buildings we design, build and maintain.
