Base pay range

$215,000.00/yr - $235,000.00/yr

Neurona Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company committed to discovering and developing regenerative cell-based therapies to treat chronic neurological disorders. As we continue to scale our corporate operations, we are seeking a Director of IT to lead core IT functions that ensure a secure, reliable, and high-performing environment across our organization.

This hands-on role is responsible for overseeing the entire IT function at Neurona including day-to-day infrastructure management, cloud and on-prem operations, service desk oversight, and vendor relationship management—with a particular focus on maintaining a strong partnership with our Managed Service Provider, All Covered. The Director will collaborate closely with all functional leadership to support systems critical to scientific and operational success.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Operations Oversight

• Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement IT strategies that align with the company's goals and support the operating plan.
• Manage and maintain the availability, performance, and security of Neurona's IT infrastructure across:
• Cloud Platforms: Ensure infrastructure scales with business growth; support computer, storage, and hosting needs for internal and lab systems.
• Network & Systems: Maintain and troubleshoot network infrastructure and VPN access; oversee virtual and physical server environments.
• Endpoint Management: Ensure proper imaging, deployment, patching, and asset lifecycle management for laptops and other employee endpoints.
• Backup & Recovery: Support business continuity through regular backups and tested recovery procedures.
• Database & Storage: Coordinate with teams on storage utilization and database performance to ensure availability and efficiency.
• Configuration Management: Maintain and utilize a CMDB to track infrastructure assets and dependencies.
  

• Set up laptops for new employees.
• Serve as primary Neurona contact for All Covered, our Managed Services [Security] Provider (MSP/MSSP), ensuring:
• High-quality service desk operations and timely ticket resolution.
• Proactive issue escalation, trend analysis and follow-up for recurring problems.
• Periodic reviews of SLAs, ticket metrics, and employee satisfaction.
  

• Oversee collaboration platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex Voice) and ensure AV reliability for hybrid meetings, All Hands, and board presentations.
• Coordinate AV needs with Facilities and Executive Assistant for high-profile events.
  
  

• Implement and manage monitoring tools for system uptime, resource utilization, and performance alerts.
• Follow up on monthly vulnerability scans to ensure all critical network vulnerabilities are addressed in a timely manner
• Ensure all IT security systems and software are working properly, tuned and follow up on security alerts.
  
  

• Ensure infrastructure and service desk operations are compliant with GxP, HIPAA, and other biotech regulatory standards.
• Support inspection readiness by maintaining documentation, SOPs, and validated systems as needed.
• Maintain a comprehensive and documented Information Security and Disaster Recovery/Business Continuance Program.
  
  

• Work closely with management to identify IT needs and propose solutions.
• Lead and execute infrastructure upgrades, office/lab expansions, and IT-related onboarding projects.
• Monitor capacity needs and recommend appropriate infrastructure scaling.
  
  

• Oversee key vendor relationships, including All Covered, cloud platform providers, and hardware suppliers.
• Support budget planning for infrastructure projects, renewals, and service contracts.
  
  

• 10+ years of progressive IT experience with increasing responsibility in infrastructure, systems, and operations.
• 3+ years of leadership experience.
• Strong working knowledge of cloud environments, Windows-based and MacOS networks, endpoint management, and hybrid infrastructure.
• Proven experience managing an MSP/MSSP relationship and overseeing service desk and SOC performance.
• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a biotech or similarly fast-paced environment.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills and comfort navigating across technical and non-technical teams.
• Strong communication skills and a customer service mindset.
• Must be onsite at Company's headquarters in South San Francisco, CA
  
  

• Prior experience in life sciences or biotech setting supporting both lab and corporate teams.
• Familiarity with GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, or HIPAA compliance frameworks.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree a plus.
• Experience with Microsoft 365, MacOS, Active Directory, Zoom, and endpoint security tools.
• Must be comfortable working simultaneously in a Microsoft 365 and MacOS environment.
