The Data Science Manager will lead a team of talented data scientists, driving the development and deployment of advanced analytical solutions to solve complex business problems across various functions, including merchandising, marketing, supply chain, and e-commerce. This role requires a strong leader with deep technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to translate data insights into actionable strategies that impact business growth and efficiency. The manager will be instrumental in building out and nurturing a high-performing data science pod, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.

responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data scientists (including Data Science Level 2 Producers), providing technical guidance, career development, and performance feedback.
• Define and execute the data science roadmap in alignment with Levi's strategic objectives, identifying new opportunities for leveraging data to drive business value.
• Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of data science projects, from problem definition and data collection to model development, deployment, and monitoring.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., product management, engineering, business units) to understand their needs and translate them into data science solutions.
• Ensure the quality, accuracy, and interpretability of models and analyses.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and AI, evaluating and integrating new technologies and methodologies where appropriate.
• Champion data-driven decision-making throughout the organization.
• Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables effectively.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of data science best practices, tools, and infrastructure.
  
  

qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related quantitative field. Ph.D. is a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in data science, with at least 2+ years in a leadership or management role, leading data science teams.
• Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R.
• Extensive experience with various machine learning techniques (e.g., supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning) and statistical modeling.
• Proficiency with SQL and experience working with large datasets in cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure) and distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Spark).
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex analytical findings into clear, concise, and actionable business recommendations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience with A/B testing, experimental design, and causal inference.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with an ability to think strategically and execute tactically.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Experience in the retail or consumer goods industry is a significant plus.
