Cashier Receptionist

Description:

The cashier/receptionist is a member of the healthcare department team who functions under the direction, guidance, and supervision of the department manager, assistant manager, or designee. The cashier/receptionist greets and checks in all patients reporting to the medical office in a professional and courteous manner. This position is responsible for accurate check-in, check-out (where applicable), information capture, and revenue collection per procedures. The role requires a general knowledge of the medical center to assist patients with questions and concerns. Extensive use of the computer is required.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Reception, check-in, check-out (where applicable)
  2. Greeting and assisting patients
  3. Following patient registration/check-in policies and procedures
  4. Verifying and updating demographic information
  5. Understanding health plan coverage types
  6. Checking in patients using systems or manual records when systems are down
  7. Determining patient benefits and creating necessary accounts
  8. Capturing workers compensation data and documenting prepayments
  9. Obtaining patient medical record numbers and ordering health plan cards
  10. Collecting co-pays and fees, informing patients of payment options
  11. Generating encounter forms and directing patients post check-in
  12. Checking out patients following policies and procedures
  13. Registering exception-type patients (non-members, Medicare, etc.)
  14. Initiating and completing appointment forms
  15. Accessing fee schedules to determine fees based on CPT-4 or service codes
  16. Explaining co-pays, providing directions, and referring to other departments
  17. Completing forms like Release of Information and Patient Financial Responsibility
  18. Tracking referrals to specialty care
  19. Maintaining knowledge of Patient Administration Appointment Registration (PARRS)
  20. Managing patient will-call area if applicable
  21. Communicating with clinical and administrative staff
  22. Handling cash, reconciliation, and deposits according to policies
  23. Safeguarding revenue and cash control keys
  24. Reconciling shift and deposit funds, documenting discrepancies
  25. Other operational responsibilities aimed at positive outcomes
