Role Overview
This Lead Principal Engineer will lead engineering efforts in our Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Support technology landscape. You will drive the development of next-generation applications, foster strong partnerships within Atlassian, and ensure our product portfolio is cohesive and integrated with the broader ecosystem. You will be central to building one of the best teams in the world.

Compensation
Atlassian offers equitable, competitive compensation with a higher-than-market baseline. In the US, base pay ranges are:
Zone A: $268,800 - $358,400
Zone B: $242,000 - $322,600
Zone C: $223,100 - $297,500
Additional benefits include bonuses, commissions, and equity. Confirm your location's pay zone with your recruiter.

Responsibilities

• Create a vision for a connected ecosystem and lead the engineering organization to deliver a cohesive experience.
• Develop and promote engineering excellence standards.
• Support data-driven decision making through metrics and measurement.
• Collaborate with dependency teams to develop plans and roadmaps, integrating products into the Atlassian ecosystem.
• Hire, mentor, and lead engineers.
• Act as Technical Lead for large areas, providing leadership to senior technical staff.
• Build relationships with key stakeholders and engineering leaders across Atlassian.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• BSc in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years developing large-scale distributed systems.
• 4+ years in architectural oversight and technical leadership.
• Proven track record with successful products.

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent communication and cross-discipline collaboration skills.
• Experience architecting large-scale distributed systems supporting high-usage applications.
• Knowledge of SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, with hands-on experience in cloud platforms like AWS.
• Proficiency in modern object-oriented programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, Kotlin, JavaScript, Go).
• Deep understanding of relational and non-relational storage.
• Experience with applied Machine Learning.
• Ability to drive long-term vision and strategy.
• Strong empathy, bias for action, and adaptability in ambiguous environments.
