Interim Sr. Tax Manager / Tax Director

Duration: ASAP – April 30, 2026

Schedule: Full-time preferred, open to part-time for the right candidate

We're partnering with our client to backfill a newly vacated position and provide extended leave coverage through April 2026. This is an excellent opportunity to step in as interim Tax Manager/ Director for a high-growth, public company with a complex and interesting tax profile. You'll be reporting to the Director of Tax, who will be heading out on maternity leave this fall. She is sharp, collaborative, highly technical, and very committed to a smooth handoff.

This is a high-impact, hands-on role. You'll effectively be a one-person tax department (supported externally by Big 4 firms), so you'll need to bring the technical chops and confidence to own the tax function during this stretch.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead ASC 740 tax provision work and related financial statement disclosures
• Prepare supporting workbooks and tax calculations for direct & indirect tax compliance
• Prepare and manage tax footnotes, rollforwards, valuation allowance, and ETR
• Provide financial and support schedules to outsourced Big 4 compliance provider
• Manage tax-related journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and balance sheet reconciliations
• Lead documentation for SOX tax controls (quarterly and annual)
• Monitor tax law changes and maintain compliance (ASC 714, Sec. 174, 162m, etc.)
• Liaise with external auditors and internal finance leadership
• Maintain high standards of accuracy and ownership in a fast-paced environment

Ideal Profile:

• Strong ASC 740 technical knowledge and experience owning the full provision process
• Previous experience in a public company environment or complex reporting structure
• Comfortable working independently but also collaborative and communicative
• CPA preferred but not required

Location: Role is hybrid in San Francisco (Financial District). Preference is for this individual to be onsite 2–3 days/week but client will consider fully remote if the fit is right.

Schedule: Full-time preferred. Open to part-time options for experienced candidates.
