Overview
TransitAmerica Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Terminal Manager in San Francisco, CA to join our team.
The San Francisco Terminal Manager is an experienced and detail-oriented leader responsible for the safe, efficient, and coordinated daily operations of the Caltrain terminal in San Francisco. This position coordinates with multiple departments including Operations, Dispatch, Mechanical, Maintenance of Way, and Train Electrical Systems (TES) to ensure seamless train movements, optimal platform utilization, and effective response to scheduled and unscheduled events.
The Terminal Manager plays a critical role in managing high-volume periods such as sporting events, parades, and other large-scale or specialty events, ensuring service reliability, public safety, and operational coordination.
The pay range for this position is $130,000 - $160,000 annually.
Duties And Responsibilities
- This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.
- Lead, monitor, and manage all daily terminal activities including train arrivals and departures, platform assignments, turnarounds, and layovers.
- Function as the central coordination point between Dispatch, Operations, Maintenance of Way, TES, and Mechanical departments to ensure terminal efficiency.
- Develop and execute terminal operation plans for major events (e.g., baseball and basketball games, concerts, and special service days) to manage crowd flow, equipment availability, and on-time performance.
- Work closely with train dispatch to manage terminal train flow, monitor service disruptions, and develop real-time solutions to mitigate delays or conflicts.
- Coordinate with Mechanical and TES teams to ensure that trainsets are properly staged, inspected, cleaned, and prepared for service in accordance with schedules and safety protocols.
- Partner with Maintenance Away (MW) teams to ensure that track, signals, and infrastructure work is conducted with minimal service impact, incorporating MW/TES plans into terminal operations.
- Oversee the assignment of tracks and platforms in accordance with capacity constraints, maintenance windows, and train schedules.
- Uphold safety standards and regulatory requirements, promoting a culture of accountability and proactive safety management.
- Provide timely updates to stakeholders, develop reports on terminal operations, and maintain situational awareness through logs and communication tools.
- Lead and mentor terminal staff, including supervisors, coordinators, and support personnel. Participate in training, evaluations, and workforce planning.
- Participate in rotational "on-call" emergency duties for weekends and holidays.
- Respond to emergency and routine events.
- Regular and consistent engagement, participation, and promotion of Herzog's Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
- Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of railroad operations experience with at least 3 years in a terminal or yard management role. Experience coordinating with trains crews, dispatch, and other departments is essential.
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred. Equivalent work experience may substitute for formal education.
- Strong understanding of railroad terminal operations, dispatch procedures, train movement protocols, mechanical and electrical systems, and maintenance coordination.
- Excellent communication, organization, and decision-making skills while under pressure.
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays depending on service demand and event schedules.
- General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR)
- Experience with collective bargaining agreements.
- Experience managing and responding to emergencies that occur during 24-7 operations.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- Subject to a pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and endorsements as required per position.
- Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen
- Complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
