Under general direction of the Program Planning & Review (PP&R) Senior Apprenticeship Consultant, the Apprenticeship Consultant supports the DAS staff in the program application process for Apprenticeship, On-the-Job Training, Journey person Upgrade and Pre-Apprenticeship Programs, by reviewing applications and training DAS staff on the application processes.

The incumbent works 40 hours per week in an office setting that is in an air conditioned, multiple floor building with elevator access, and contains cubicles with natural and artificial lighting. May be required to work from other locations throughout California as needed including working from home if provided with proper office equipment. Typical conditions include office tools such as a computer, being in a stationary position for long periods of time and/or driving; typical office/vehicle noise and/or vibration; may encounter inclement weather.
This office will be relocating in December 2025, to the renovated New Labor Agency Building in Downtown Sacramento, at 1416 9th Street.

The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) was established in 1927. DIR administers and enforces laws governing wages, workplace safety and health, apprenticeship training programs, and medical care and other benefits for injured workers.

Three years of experience in promoting and development of apprenticeship or other on-the-job training programs; coordinating, directing, or developing on-the-job training programs in skilled professions; knowledge of State civil service hiring practices. Proficient grammar and written/verbal communication skills. Demonstrated interest in and aptitude for employment relations work and the capacity for professional development. Understanding of the needs and problems of workers and minority people. A willingness, as a learner, to do routine and detailed work. Impartiality, flexibility, emotional stability, tact and willingness to travel. Organizational and time management skills.
