The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in government grant accounting, restricted and unrestricted fund allocations, financial statement preparation, balance sheet reconciliation, variance analysis, and month-end close process. You'll also support audit readiness and ensure accuracy and efficiency in high-volume accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) operations and work cross functionally with key internal stakeholders and various departments.

Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this is an exciting opportunity to lead complex accounting functions that support essential healthcare programs—while growing professionally and making a meaningful impact in a mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Maintain general ledger integrity and ensure compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.
  • Manage accounting for federal, state, and local government grants, ensuring compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200).
  • Monitor and track restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring proper allocation and usage in accordance with donor intent and grantor requirements.
  • Prepare financial reports and invoicing for grantors and external agencies.
  • Serve as a key contact during annual audits, preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Ensure internal controls are followed and assist in identifying opportunities for process improvement and risk mitigation.
  • Oversee and provide guidance on AP/AR transactions, vendor management, cash applications, and aging analysis.
  • Collaborate with finance and operations teams to streamline billing, collections, and disbursements.
  • Mentor junior accounting staff and support cross-functional teams with financial insights and support.
  • Actively contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive GL accounting experience
  • Nonprofit healthcare or large nonprofit industry required.
  • Strong experience in grant accounting (especially City, County, federal/state grants), fund accounting, and audit preparation.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Blackbaud, NetSuite, Oracle, or similar ERP).
  • Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, FASB standards, and Uniform Guidance.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
