The Asian Art Museum seeks a Manager of Content Strategy to lead strategic content planning and development across the museum's digital platforms, shaping how the museum's mission and stories are communicated. The position supervises a small creative team while prioritizing content strategy, editorial planning, audience engagement, and managing social media platforms with a limited focus on digital marketing. The Manager of Content Strategy will be responsible for producing compelling digital content that reflects and amplifies the museum's mission to celebrate Asian and Asian American art and cultures. This role plays a key part in engaging diverse audiences in alignment with the museum's values of diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion (DEAI), and in strengthening community connection through innovative storytelling, analytics, and digital experiences.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive content strategy for the museum's website content, and social media platforms, aligning editorial calendars with exhibitions, cultural events, and institutional priorities
  • Plans and produces engaging digital content, including copy, imagery, and video that reflects the museum's exhibitions, collections, and programs while maintaining brand consistency and quality across platforms.
  • Ensures content is timely and relevant by connecting museum programming with current events and community conversations, reinforcing the museum's position in cultural dialogue.
  • Fosters online community engagement by creating inclusive campaigns that spark conversation, promote belonging, and build sustained relationships with followers.
  • Oversees day-to-day management of creative staff, providing mentorship, direction, and feedback to ensure high-quality content production and team development.
  • Collaborates across departments to source content, ensure accuracy, and reflect diverse voices in storytelling.
  • Champions diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion (DEAI) in all content, ensuring materials are representative, respectful, and accessible through inclusive content practices.
  • Defines and tracks key performance indicators (KPIs) for content success, prepares regular performance reports, and uses analytics to guide content optimization.
  • Adjusts strategy and tactics based on data insights and audience engagement trends, experimenting with emerging formats and platforms to keep content fresh and effective.
  • Coordinates with Marketing and Communications to align content with institutional messaging and support integrated campaigns, including limited participation in paid media and SEO efforts.
  • Manages multiple content projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines, workflows, and digital asset management protocols are consistently met and resolves content-related issues and disputes, including adjusting workflows or personnel assignments as needed.
  • Effectively leads and manages a team, assigning work based on skills and priorities, providing coaching and feedback, and supporting team development and personnel decisions.
  • Stays current with digital content and social media trends, platform developments, and best practices, actively bringing new ideas for innovation and audience growth to the team.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, Digital Media, Communications, Marketing, or a related field and seven years of professional experience in digital content strategy, social media management, journalism, or a related field, including at least two years in a supervisory or leadership role. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement multichannel content strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Proven experience managing editorial calendars, launching campaigns, and growing audiences in a nonprofit, museum, or mission-driven environment.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills with an ability to adapt content across platforms and engage diverse audiences.
  • Deep knowledge of major social media platforms (Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok), including current trends, features, and best practices.
  • Experience managing online communities, fostering engagement, and responding to audience interactions in a strategic and respectful manner.
  • Proficiency in analytics tools (e.g., native social platform insights, Google Analytics) with the ability to analyze and report on content performance.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, timelines, and stakeholders.
  • Experience leading creative teams or collaborative projects, including mentoring staff and providing constructive feedback.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion (DEAI) in all aspects of content planning and production.
  • Working knowledge of tools such as social media management platforms (e.g., Sprout Social) and basic proficiency with digital content tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar).
  • Enthusiasm for museums, arts, and culture, with a strong interest in or knowledge of Asian art and Asian American cultural experiences.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends in support of museum programs or time-sensitive content initiatives.

Compensation

The Asian Art Museum is committed to practicing salary transparency. The minimum salary for this position is $105,000 and the maximum salary is $115,000. Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity. This opportunity includes a generous benefits package, including but not limited to:
