Description:

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective completion of construction projects by overseeing all project phases. This will entail working with various stakeholders to schedule and plan work, coordinate equipment and materials, operate within budget, and monitor overall progress.

While a Senior Project Manager might engage in several different roles within each specific project, their responsibilities are crucial to the success of a construction project. A Senior Project Manager helps employees effectively work together to create a great final product. The manager is the leader of the project, but by no means is it a job that can be done alone. Through proper teamwork, communication, budget management, resource management, and planning, a project can turn out more than successful. It takes a high team mentality in the construction business to make something great, but it also makes a great manager direct everyone towards a successful project.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manage labor compliance requirements
  2. Determine and define the scope of work and deliverables
  3. Predict resources needed to complete the project
  4. Obtain necessary permits, approvals, and other regulatory prerequisites
  5. Draft and submit a budget based on the scope of work and resource requirements
  6. Manage costs to meet budget
  7. Provide direction over contracts and subcontracts
  8. Routinely review, maintain, and update schedules and budgets to ensure projects are completed within the General Contractor's schedule while periodically meeting with Finance/Accounting to assess project performance and percentage of completion
  9. Manage construction schedule and activities
  10. Issue progress updates as needed regarding costs and timelines
  11. Ensure work complies with all relevant building and safety codes
  12. Select and manage subcontractor and supplier relationships
  13. Coordinate efforts across the entire project between architects, designers, engineers, and subcontractors

Qualifications for Senior Project Manager

  1. Senior Project Managers generally need to have a Bachelor's degree in building construction, construction management, civil engineering, or architecture
  2. 7-12 years of experience in project management within the drywall industry
  3. Comfortable reading and understanding blueprints and drawings
  4. Has the requisite computer hardware and Microsoft Office, On-Screen Take Off/Quick Bid, Adobe Acrobat, and Bluebeam software skills
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of construction, engineering, and architecture principles
  6. Ability to budget, schedule, negotiate, and control costs
  7. A high degree of familiarity with contract and subcontract documents, terms, and conditions
  8. Strong leadership and management skills
