Construction Project Manager Job Description

The Project Manager is responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective completion of construction projects by overseeing all project phases. This includes working with various stakeholders to schedule and plan work, coordinate equipment and materials, operate within budget, and monitor overall progress.

While a Project Manager may engage in various roles within each project, their responsibilities are crucial to the project's success. A senior Project Manager helps employees work effectively together to create a high-quality final product. The manager leads the project, but teamwork, communication, budget management, resource management, and planning are essential for success. Effective leadership and a team-oriented approach are vital in the construction industry to achieve outstanding results.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manage labor compliance requirements
  2. Define the scope of work and deliverables
  3. Predict resources needed to complete the project
  4. Obtain necessary permits, approvals, and regulatory prerequisites
  5. Draft and submit a budget based on the scope of work and resource requirements
  6. Manage costs to stay within budget
  7. Oversee contracts and subcontracts
  8. Manage construction schedule and activities
  9. Provide progress updates on costs and timelines
  10. Ensure compliance with building and safety codes
  11. Select and manage relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
  12. Coordinate efforts among architects, designers, engineers, and subcontractors

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in building construction, construction management, civil engineering, or architecture
  • At least 5 years of project management experience in the drywall and metal stud industry
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and drawings
  • Skills in computer hardware, Microsoft Office, On-Screen Takeoff/Quick Bid, Adobe Acrobat, and Bluebeam software
  • Knowledge of construction, engineering, and architecture principles
  • Ability to budget, schedule, negotiate, and control costs
  • Familiarity with contract and subcontract documents, terms, and conditions
  • Strong leadership and management skills
