Job Description

As Assistant Camp Director, you will collaborate with the Camp Director to oversee daily operations, support staff, and ensure a joyful, safe, and inclusive experience for all campers. You will serve as the "manager on duty" when needed, balancing safety, program quality, and a positive environment while building strong relationships with families and staff. This seasonal role involves working Monday - Friday, with flexible hours depending on location and needs.

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee Daily Camp Operations :

Collaborate with the Camp Director to ensure safety and joy in programs.

  • Prioritize tasks effectively and support camper safety.
  • Act as "manager on duty" in the absence of the Camp Director.
  • Handle daily operational and administrative tasks.
  • Perform opening and closing duties as scheduled.
  • Provide Exceptional Customer Service :

Communicate with families and coach staff on professional communication.

  • Address concerns and support staff to ensure positive resolutions.
  • Create a safe, engaging environment balancing safety, operations, and staff support.
  • Team Management and Staff Support :

Support the Camp Director in leading and coaching the team, including Extended Care staff.

  • Facilitate dialogue among diverse groups to promote understanding and responsibility.
  • Support Camp Programming and Rotations :

Assist with managing rotations and cover duties as needed.

  • Ensure quality implementation of Galileo curriculum and provide feedback.
  • Lead Camper-Centered Activities :

Participate in camp activities to promote spirit and service.

  • Create a safe, fun environment balancing safety and engagement.
  • Manage Extended Care Program :

Independently direct the program before and after camp hours.

  • Plan activities, train staff, and ensure program quality.
  • Focus on camper and family experience, staff development, and quality.
  • Develop Skills with Ongoing Training :

Gain leadership and management experience.

  • Develop skills in staff training, conflict resolution, and program planning.
  • Receive mentorship and professional guidance.

Compensation

Starting at $24.00 / hour for first-year staff, with increases based on experience and tenure, up to $25.00 / hour for experienced staff.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in youth programming or related fields.
  • 1+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience supervising children in groups of 15+.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete pre-camp requirements.
  • Valid CPR / First Aid certification or ability to obtain it.
  • Availability for full camp duration, Monday - Friday.
  • Minimum age 18 by May 12, 2025.

Schedule

Camp operates Monday - Friday, with shifts starting as early as 7 : 00 a.m. and ending as late as 6 : 30 p.m. Staff must complete training and pre-camp setup days, which may include weekends.

Physical Demands
