Neural Engineer (Neuromancer)

Mara is building low cost, tactical autonomous systems to secure a long-term strategic advantage for the United States and its allies in the free world. We are currently working to fulfill direct demand from our first customers, Ukrainian front-line commanders, by Q4 ‘25.


Backed by a16z speedrun, Mara is speedrunning deployment to combat by operating on an entirely different model from other defense companies.

You must be stellar at:

  • Open and direct communication, whether it's writing up issues, codebase documentation, or face-to-face feedback during a 1:1
  • Independently learning new technical skills to unblock yourself mid-build


And completely comfortable with:

  • Engineering tailored neural networks (from simple shallow NNs to PINNs) for specific problems
  • Spotlessly documenting & organizing experiments and data
  • Developing software with real time constraints
  • Sim2Real workflows for developing control and perception systems for robotics
  • Solving complex, system-level problems which may sometimes touch hardware


Bonus Points for:

  • Personal projects (particularly involving UAVs, ML, robotics, or game dev)
  • Open source contributions
  • A general awareness of cybersecurity concepts
  • Part 107 license and FPV drone piloting experience


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Python and a basic knowledge of C/C++
  • (optional) A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field


Your day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Design, development, and testing of software for mission critical UAVs and other robots
  • Design, development, and testing of simulation software for UAVs and other robots
  • Design, development, and testing of lightweight internal tools to support engineering tasks
  • Periodically assist in deploying software
  • Periodically assist with real world testing efforts (may involve travel)
