HED is looking to add an experienced team member to our group of talented Structural Engineers. The candidate should have broad structural design expertise, with a focus on California School (DSA) and Healthcare (HCAI) projects. Experience in steel, wood, and concrete materials is preferred. ROLE & TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Responsible for building system concepts and documentation for projects from schematic design through construction administration, often managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • May serve as a Discipline Team Leader, collaborating with in-house A/E team members, including Project Managers and Architects, to create and deliver Positive Impact for clients, colleagues, and the community.
  • Oversee and support project team members within the structural engineering discipline, especially on larger and more complex projects, aiming for Design Excellence.

Typical duties include:

  • Leading structural design and documentation efforts, producing drawings, calculations, specifications, and supporting research.
  • Interpreting documents and reviewing submittals during bidding and construction phases.
  • Monitoring staff to ensure quality services within a team-oriented approach, aligned with HED best practices.
  • Planning and monitoring the structural discipline's project efforts, including preparing Discipline Work Plans.
  • Attending project meetings, representing the structural discipline to partners and clients.
  • Collaborating with other Discipline Team Leaders.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum six years of technical design experience in Structural Engineering.
  • Experience with California PreK-12 (DSA), Healthcare (HCAI/OSHPD), laboratory/life science, Mission Critical, or other complex projects.
  • California-licensed PE required; SE license encouraged.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil/Structural or Architectural Engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge of all phases of professional services from schematic design to project close-out.
  • Understanding of coordination requirements across disciplines.
  • Proficiency with ETABS, RAM, RISA, and other structural analysis software.
  • Ability to lead and mentor structural design teams, estimate hours, and delegate tasks.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Revit.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible.
  • LEED Accreditation preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Occasional travel to project sites within California and possibly other states.
  • Ability to access project sites for observation and evaluation.
  • Proficiency with office equipment for communication and documentation.
  • Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.
