Wilderness Torah seeks a Program Director to support nature-based, experiential programs for all ages, with a focus on youth in grades K-12. Our youth programs integrate mentorship and nature-based exploration with Jewish spirituality, tradition, and wisdom. Our young adult and adult programming center on community building, earth-connection, and life-phase celebrations.
As the Program Director, you will use your skills in organizational development, facilitation, relationship building, and leadership to inspire your team and expand Wilderness Torah's impact through community partnerships.
The Program Director is responsible for overseeing all of Wilderness Torah's programs and supervising Program Managers. Programs include: Youth Programs: B'hootz (Grades 2-5), B'naiture (Grades 6–8), Shomrim (Grades 8–12); Adult Programs: Neshama Quest backpacking trips, Older to Elder, and online classes.
Areas of Responsibility
- Direct Year-Round Youth and Adult Programs
- Lead implementation of all programs
- Manage recruitment, training, and supervision of program staff
- Oversee participant outreach and recruitment
- Support marketing and promotion
- Develop curricula with Jewish, nature connection, and Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion themes
- Communicate with partners and stakeholders
- Ensure program quality through site visits
- Establish and maintain institutional partnership programs
- Develop and Implement Partnership Programs with Jewish Institutions
- Oversee operations of in-person nature immersion, camping, and backpacking trips
- Lead curriculum development and staff training
- Conduct outreach to grow programs
- Build and maintain new partnerships in the Bay Area
- General Wilderness Torah Responsibilities
- Support special tasks as needed
- Participate in staff meetings and retreats
- Engage in Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion work
- Contribute as a member of a small, innovative team
Educational Background
- 2+ years of experience as a Jewish/Outdoor educator
- 2+ years supervising staff
- 3+ years as a program manager or director; Jewish experience required
Skills and Experience
- Passion for outdoor Jewish learning
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Self-motivated with project leadership ability
- Detail-oriented and analytical
- Proficiency with Google Workspace
- Commitment to earth-based Judaism
- Access to a vehicle
- Full-time, salary $75,000–$85,000, with benefits including medical, dental, and retirement
