Position Summary:

The Project Engineer will work within the Engineering Department and be assigned to support Hoffman Specialty Contracting, Inc. (HSC), Hoffman's self-performed interior specialties affiliate company. The position reports to the VP of Operations and President of HSC, working closely with the HSC Project Superintendent and Project Manager. The role involves collaboration with design professionals, clients, vendors, and subcontractors to address complex coordination issues. As the frontline for technical challenges, the HSC Project Engineer ensures smooth project execution. This position is based entirely on the project site, with locations varying across cities or states. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project engineering, interior framing, drywall, acoustical ceilings, interior finishes, structural engineering, project management, and experience with interior specialties contractors. This expertise is vital for managing the interior scope and ensuring quality standards.

Salary Range

$76,500 - $95,000 annually, depending on experience.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Run meetings with managers, design team, subcontractors, and clients.
  2. Coordinate field items with vendors and subcontractors.
  3. Interpret design and construction documents, manuals, and quantify materials.
  4. Coordinate interior scope with architectural, structural, and MEP elements.
  5. Organize training for client personnel on interior systems.
  6. Review and process submittals, ensuring accuracy and functionality.
  7. Generate and manage RFIs.
  8. Handle change documents from team members.
  9. Conduct field survey layouts.
  10. Serve as technical advisor onsite.
  11. Coordinate systems within the overall interior design.

Qualifications

Position-Related Skills

  • Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Experience with project management software like Prolog, Procore, E-Builder, Bluebeam, MS Project, Primavera P6.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks.
  • Training in design and construction documents, specifications, survey techniques.
  • Organizational skills for technical data, familiar with CSI standards.
  • Understanding of construction aspects, keen observation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, good communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Flexible schedule for extended hours or shifts.

Experience & Education

  • Minimum two years of commercial construction experience with interior finishes.
  • Knowledge of interior construction methods and materials.
  • High School diploma or GED; Bachelor's in architecture, civil, or structural engineering preferred.
  • Relevant field experience or education in materials and methods.

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Ability to work both stationary and mobile at construction sites.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces.
  • Operate office and construction machinery, use hands and legs for tasks.
  • Visual acuity for detailed work, ability to work in outdoor environments.
  • Work around loud equipment, wear hearing protection as needed.
  • Communicate effectively in English, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in various physical positions.
  • Use judgment and problem-solving skills independently.
