The GFiber Webpass Field Technician is responsible for constructing and supporting our Outside Plant (OSP) wired and wireless Internet Service Provider (ISP) network. This field-based position involves installation and construction efforts for the GFiber Webpass network. Job responsibilities include the installation, termination, testing, and documentation of cabling and related peripherals in Multi-Dwelling Unit (MxU) properties. This includes hardware installation, placing cross-connects, working with various types of copper and fiber optic cabling, installing radio mounts, pointing microwave point-to-point radios, and performing related duties in preventative and reactive maintenance, troubleshooting, and building turn-up.

Role Description

As a GFiber Webpass Construction Technician, you will build, troubleshoot, upgrade, and maintain our network. Each building presents unique challenges, so you will need a wide range of skills and the ability to exercise judgment based on the situation. You will collaborate effectively with both field and Network Operations Center (NOC) teams, and work well both independently and as part of a team. In this role, your responsibilities will include installing and testing copper and fiber cabling and associated peripherals, pathway identification and creation, physical layer network upgrades, and interacting with and gaining agreements from on-site partners during the construction phase. You will also participate in an after-hours on-call rotation to support urgent issues.

In this role, you'll:

  • Support Webpass network construction efforts, including the installation of new equipment, maintenance of existing equipment, and related tasks.
  • Apply foundational knowledge and core abilities to complete basic network construction tasks, including working with twisted-pair copper cabling and/or fiber optic cables, installing radio mounts, pointing microwave point-to-point radios, and upgrading existing equipment.
  • Exercise sound judgment and test/troubleshoot connections with limited guidance, for both residential and commercial customers.
  • Perform residential in-home customer installation work as needed.
  • Participate in on-call rotations as needed and understand urgency and prioritization.

At a minimum we'd like you to have:

  • 1 year of experience in network construction and/or fiber installation, repairing fiber, twisted-pair, and coaxial copper cabling networks.
  • 1 year of experience pulling, terminating, and testing twisted-pair copper cabling and fiber optics in residential and commercial environments.
  • Experience troubleshooting Ethernet network connectivity issues related to routers, switches, Centralized Logic Controllers (CLCs), modems, and nodes.
  • A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record that meets company standards.

It's preferred if you have:

  • Experience with rack and stack work, assembling server racks, telecom closet work, and patch panels.
  • Ability to terminate fiber optic cable using a variety of connectors; experience using fusion splicers.
  • Proven advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving/repair skills for communication networks.

The US base salary for this full-time position is $63,000 - $70,000 + bonus + benefits. As pay varies by location, your recruiter will share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
