Department Overview

The Transmission System Planning (TSP) department performs interconnection studies, multi-year assessments, and develops a portfolio of transmission expansion plans and projects to meet the company's transmission needs for safe and reliable electric service, adhering to NERC and WECC standards. TSP actively participates in standard development and develops transmission policies and strategies to meet RPS goals. The department supports project implementation, operations, legal, and other internal departments.

Position Summary

This position is represented by ESC and is subject to collective bargaining.

The Senior Transmission Planning role provides technical, planning, and project support for transmission, substation, and distribution systems, with responsibilities increasing with experience.

This is a hybrid role, working remotely and onsite within PG&E's service territory.

Salary ranges are provided based on locality, skills, experience, and other factors:

  • CA Minimum: $153,828
  • CA Maximum: $197,628

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare base cases and lead approval processes for load forecasts.
  • Manage generator testing, model development, and develop HVDC or non-standard equipment models.
  • Lead transmission planning studies, including long-term strategy development.
  • Support development of transmission assessments and expansion plans.
  • Provide technical guidance across departments on planning and policy issues.
  • Lead complex studies, develop new analysis methods, and create interconnection standards.
  • Guide lower engineers on interconnection studies.
  • Lead the implementation of large-scale projects, including permits and compliance.
  • Lead regulatory filings and compliance activities with FERC, NERC, WECC, and CAISO.
  • Participate in strategic planning and capital investment activities.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
  • 8 years of experience in electrical engineering, planning, or operations.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of power system theory, PG&E's system, and reliability standards.
  • Experience in system operations, engineering, asset strategy, or protection.
  • Experience with load flow programs like GE PSLF, programming languages (Matlab, Python, VBA, EPCL).
  • Active California PE license in Electrical Engineering.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
